Falwell in 'gravely serious' condition

Some of these calls for respect for the dead seem to be coming from the same people who rejoiced in the death of Saddam.

eta: not comparing Falwell to Saddam in any way, just saying you can't have it both ways.

True. It's working the other way around though, too.

I just can't understand rejoicing in anyone's death, Falwell included.

Who is rejoicing, Jenn? I said I'm disgusted by anyone who thinks just because someone is dead, we can't say what we honestly think about how that person lived their life. And Falwell was a sick bigot of a man. I also said it's disgusting to me that anyone would defend his actions just because he might have "made right with god" in his dying seconds.

Suddenly men of history can't be discussed? Please.

Don't you have anything better than unsubstantiated personal attacks?

Gee Charles, I knew you were dense, but I didn't realize you didn't know enough about history to know how totally substantive my attack on Falwell is.

let's not get into the subject of dense, otherwise your neck roll might become the topic ;)

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Notice a difference?

' Ye shall know them by their fruits...'

(Matthew 7:16)

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Anyone who defends this sick fuc!k of a man posing as God's rep on earth really needs their heads examined. And, yes, we can judge people based on their deeds, because we are mortal, of this earth, and that is all we know, especially those of us who don't lose their minds in this whole god thing. And Falwell's deeds were disgusting, sick, unforgivable.

Your opinion...and some ppl have differing ones.

Uh huh. Profound.

I wasn't trying to be profound. Just saying something simple.

You always seem to have an attitude around here. I have seen your attitude targeted towards so many different people, on so many different subjects.

I was no fan of Falwell and I can't say that I will miss him at all.

I won't miss him either.

Somehow because I believe God gives everyone(ya, even Saddam) a chance, even at the last minute, I am defending Falwell's every action.

How can you arrive at the need to make that post having read that I was specifically not comparing the two people?

Death is death, and if we're going to respect it no matter who it is, we need to be consistent there. What part of that didn't make sense?

If you can't appreciate that people may react differently to the passing of a person as opposed to the deserved hanging of a mass murderer, then I don't know what to say.

And I have seen dogs cross the street. BFD. My attitude is that I disagree with you. Target is hardly the word I'd use but if it makes you feel better to think I have an interest in anyone specific in this forum, go for it.

Your point wasn't simple, it's simplistic. If you feel better believing a corrupt bigot can make amends in the last seconds of his life, then good for you. However, that to me is outrageous, and I will say so.

How can one claim God cares to judge a fornicator over judging a lying, conniving bully? I guess you would if you are the lying, conniving bully.

Goodness, please try to read and comprehend this time. I think the idea a man can repent in his dying breath to be bogus, b.s., ridiculous, outrageous, and plain stupid. That is what I haven't assumed you've said, that is exactly what you've said.

I'm beginning to wonder whether that is true in all cases

I know what you mean. It's possible to do, but some ppl don't want to do it.

I have been using a lot of restraint. :P Not easy.

I didn't agree with alot of Falwell's opinions, but I'm not going to be as insensitive to say I'm happy he's dead. He was definately vocal about what he believed was right. I may not have agreed with all of it, but then he had every right to say it. Maybe I was raised differently than some but, hey, why put the man down after he's dead?
