If you can afford $20K for a deductible, then why buy insurance at all?  Just forego those expensive premiums, and when you have to visit the hospital, negotiate up front to pay only 15% of the billed amounts, and pay cash.  It’s not hard at all.

Haha, negotiate up front. You're too funny. Excuse me doctor, I would like to negotiate with you the cost you of removing my appendix, that could rupture at any moment.

You have a brain tumor that is effecting your ability to speak, but negotiating with a hospital should not be a problem right?

It’s not funny at all.  Unless it’s an emergency, there is time.  And no, you would rarely be negotiating with a doctor; rather, the hospital.

However, I have learned that it is very simple to negotiate a hospital bill (though all my experience has been after the procedure).  I have also seen huge debts wiped off the slate.  As in $125,000 USD, just POOF! Gone.

Well, that is a bit of a toughie.  Hopefully, you are not too much of a jerk that a spouse or family member wouldn’t intervene on your behalf.

As I said above, AFTER the procedure is more likely.  And then, you are really on the hook.  But I have seen bills reduced as low as 10% of the original bill.  My own father, who lives only on SS income, negotiated with a hospital to pay $10 a month on a bill that was over $50,000.  Obviously, he would never pay it off.

But when a hospital writes off a bill, remember it is a tax write-off.  It’s not a complete loss for the institution.

Sure, nobody ever needs to worry about an emergency. Tell me, do drug companies also like to negotiate?

So you want apparently would like others to pay your bill. Socialism bad, getting your bill paid by others is okay.

removing my appendix

A surgeon and his wife were sitting at home one evening, quietly reading.  The wife suddenly asked, "Dear, who tore some pages out of my new book?"

The husband slapped himself on the forehead and said, "Sorry, Dear -- the back of your book was labeled 'Appendix,' and I took it out without thinking."

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Meaning no offense, but is English perhaps a second language for you?

Offense taken. People with ADHD who are feeling tired have a greater tendency to make mistakes in grammar etc. Try having a conversation with several people, whilst  listening to the radio, and writing a letter all the same time, then you might gain an appreciation of what it is like for someone with ADHD. So please excuse me, if my grammar is quite up, to your oh so, high standards.

My question came not because of any grammatical errors you may have made.  More than once, you say things I have not even alluded to, so I thought perhaps you were having a difficult time understanding me.  The other option is you are baiting me, shich is fine too, I just wanted to be sure before I responded to the bait.  (When I correct your grammar, you’ll know it.)

I never said anything about getting others to pay my bills.  I have always taken care of them myself.  Minus a bit of help when I was younger and my kids and income qualified my family for WIC, I have worked for everything I now have.  I don’t expect you to give me your money just because you have more, nor do I want to give up my hard-earned income to those who are not willing to work for theirs.

Yes, I think socialism is bad overall.  Show me a country which has a socialist economy and is thriving.  There are aspects of socialism that may have merit, such as reduced healthcare costs.  Or free college.  Sounds good, at least.  Trouble is, it isn’t working as it is supposed to, at least in Canada and other countries with similar health care styles.  Hence people are leaving their country to come here or other places to get taken care of.

Free college?  Awesome.  When everyone in a country has the same level of education, then what sets people apart from one another?  What becomes the discriminator?  The true value of the education is diminished, when everyone has the same thing.  Assuming the money never runs out, soon you’ll have a country full of people who are no more nor less hireable than anyone else.  What, then, becomes the discriminator.

and then there is this............

Democrats alerted the FBI on Thursday to decades-old sexual-misconduct allegations against President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, according to reports and a person familiar with the matter.

The potentially damning claims, which come as the Senate prepares to vote on Kavanaugh’s nomination to the highest court in the land, were made in a letter obtained by Senate Judiciary Committee ranking member Dianne Feinstein, a Democratic source told the Daily News.

Two officials briefed on the letter’s contents told the New York Times the allegations relate to possible sexual misconduct between Kavanaugh and an unidentified woman when they were both in high school.

The specific nature of the allegations was not immediately known. Kavanaugh, 53, graduated from Georgetown Preparatory, an all-boys Jesuit high school in North Bethesda, Md.

Damn, that’s quite the reach.  Both in high school?  Sexual misconduct was the NORM when I was in HS.  Happened daily.  *SMH*

https://www.vox.com/2018/9/13/17855900/dianne-feinstein-brett-kavanaugh-fbi-letter

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, has told the FBI something about Brett Kavanaugh.

But she isn’t saying what. Feinstein put out a cryptic statement Thursday. “I have received information from an individual concerning the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court,” she said. “That individual strongly requested confidentiality, declined to come forward or press the matter further, and I have honored that decision. I have, however, referred the matter to federal investigative authorities.'s

But many details are still unclear, including the crucial question of what Kavanaugh is accused of in the constituent’s letter — if he’s accused of anything at all.

What we know

So far, there are more questions than answers about what the letter is about. The letter itself is a secondhand account of an incident that hasn’t been described to reporters. Feinstein isn’t saying much: The Intercept reports that the letter had been causing a stir on Capitol Hill because she had refused to disclose it even to fellow Senate Democrats.

The letter was from someone affiliated with Stanford University who had the incident involving Kavanaugh described to them, according to the Intercept. The letter was first sent to Rep. Anna Eshoo, who represents a major swath of the Bay Area including the area where Stanford is located. Eshoo shared it with Feinstein.

What's the point if the person is not prepared to come forward and press the matter further and the letter is a secondhand account, surely this is hearsay and doesn't amount to much.
