Anyone get private health insurance in NY & what do you pay? We're currently researching our options for my husband (he's the Immigrant, just moved here a week ago). I can't add him to my plan since it's Medicaid. One quote we got was for a bronze Oscar plan for $470/month...that's way too high for us right now. We're hoping he'll find a job soon that offers health insurance, so he just needs something basic for a few months. I freelance, so I don't get anything through an employer. I qualified for Medicaid because I only worked a little last year since I was mostly living in my husbands country. Any tips would be appreciated!

@truelove29Your husband may be eligible for similar to Medicaid insurance. The name of insurance plan would be different, but it would be affordable - based on your household income - he either would have to pay $0 or a small amount. You can apply via the web-site:

https://nystateofhealth.ny.gov/

ROC

12/11/2018 - I-751 mailed (requested a fee waiver) to Lewisville, TX via FedEx

01/02/2019 - received text message from USCIS with case number starting with EAC

01/12/2019 - submitted online e-Request for non-delivery of NOA (the extension letter)

01/24/2019 - received the response to e-Request via e-mail, which says: "Please allow 30 days from the date of this correspondence for the notice to be sent".

01/28/2019 - received NOA (the extension letter), which extends GC for 18 months

Just wondering...what would he put as household income? My parents are co sponsors for him. Does he have to count their income? Currently he's making $0 since he just got here. Does he count my income & my parents? Or does he put $0? Thanks for your help!

@truelove29When you posted your initial question, you only spoke about your income and your insurance, you did not mention that your parents are your husband's sponsors.

The fact that your parents, not you, are his sponsors complicates the situation.

Call 855-355-5777 Mon-Fri, 8am-8pm, Sat 9am-1pm (the phone number from the web-site https://nystateofhealth.ny.gov/ ) and ask them.

Most likely, sponsors' income has to be counted as well.

I have Oscar. The original quote was $550 or something like that but if you go through the healthcare.gov website they will give you a quote that takes your salary into consideration. I am paying a fraction of that now for the two of us. Or give them a call directly--they are SUPER easy to deal with. Just don't call the healthcare.gov hotline unless you want to wait around for a whole day on hold
