What are packets?

I feel like I should know this! What exactly does NVC received and left mean? What does packet sent and received mean? 

 

We got our NOA2 today and I am so excited but want to make sure I understand all the steps that are coming up. I feel like I’m not prepared or educated in this enough no matter how much I read it!

For K1, after the packet received by Embassy, they will  send the correspondence to the beneficiary(aka P3) for that they can schedule the interview as well as medical.

Each embassy is different. Some embassies send an actual package to the beneficiary at every stage, most don’t. Most information is sent electronically. You need to go on the embassy website for your country and see what the next steps are. You usually just need to wait for NVC number to schedule interview and medical. But like I said some embassies send stuff.

Packet 3 for Montreal is a checklist and ds-160 confirmation.  You will email it. Now that you have NOA2 start calling the NVC for your DOS case number.  

Packet 4 for Montreal is them telling you it's okay to book an interview. Do not do it before p4, it will be invalid and cancelled without notice.

I was approved online and haven’t been received letter yet. Do I need to wait on it before I call?

If you haven't already dug these up, here are Packet 3 and Packet 4 so you can start getting familiar with what they are and what is on the checklists.

We received the email with the MTL#. Does he need to go online now and fill out the ds-160 now or wait until we get something else?

Yeah he can fill out the ds-160 and then wait for packet 3 to arrive before moving forward, or you can do as many others do and go ahead and send in your packet 3 checklist, and I think even book medical and interview .... I'd read up more on jumping ahead around the forums here and decide if you want to wait for the official packet 3 and 4 notices before booking stuff. Many people have went ahead and booked with only their MTL#.
