I have looked around this site for a while about what my fiance should bring with him from Cuba, such as required documents... but have had no such luck. So maybe someone can direct me to the appropriate place. I know he will need his birth certificate, but what other documents will be helpful once he is here? I was thinking maybe school records, vaccination record, etc. Also for those that have done this specifically from Cuba... are there certain things that he will not be able to bring into the US, or basically anything distinctly Cuban is not allowed? Thanks for your help.

Wow, congrats..

Well, some of the things that are helpful are school degrees..

drivers licence.. with a copy of the cuban DL.. he doesnt have to take the drug test.

vaccinations.. alot are good and you will need them when you apply for adjustment of status..

thats all I can think of right now..

hope it helps..

Lots of cash.

Also, Cuban cigars. One can make lots of cash with those. Don't get busted at POE with them though. (:

The nice thing is that he already speaks Spanish, and thus is well-prepared for life in many of the most populated states that have plenty of jobs available. (:

Cheers!

PEOPLE: READ THE APPLICATION FORM INSTRUCTIONS!!!! They have a lot of good information in them! Most of the questions I see on VJ are clearly addressed by the form instructions. Give them a read!! If you are unable to understand the form instructions, I highly recommend hiring someone who does to help you with the process. Our process, from K-1 to Citizenship and U.S. Passport is completed. Good luck with your process.

Don't know if this helps or if it applies to Cuba

But I was advised by the embassy to have my documents and records translated and sealed by the Argentinian consulate before I move to the US (which is still a far ahead for me, but I still checked into that)

:) Saludos!

Thanks to you all for the help and being so fast about it. I will look into these things more. I doubt he will be bringing tons of things, but we want to make sure he has all the necessary and helpful documents since it would be a pain to try and get them from here... maybe close to impossible. Take care!!!

The useful things to us we made sure Andre had always handy:

Birth Papers (we have since ordered more through the internet-a ridiculously laborous process)

Vacination records

His graduation/school records

A recommendation letter from his last job

Any Jamaican ID he could ge this hands on

His police record (has been especially important when applying for jobs for him)

A list of all addresses and phone numbers of all people he wanted to keep in touch with

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

Yep, Cuban cigars are tobacco, and that is why akdiver said not to get caught at the point of entry with them!

Bring the DS3025 vaccination worksheet from the medical to have

the vaccinations transfered to the I693 form by a civil surgeon, for the AOS.

We didn't do this at all. Was not necessary fo rus.

So you are sure that there is absolutely no Cuban rum allowed through customs, not even like a small amount? Also what about coffee? Thanks that is all I have for now. The reason I ask this is because when I came back via a legal license to Cuba (granted it was 2003) I was alloted 2 boxes of cigars and so much rum. Thanks!!!
