When I went for my naturalization interview Atlanta does same day oath ceremonies.  So I dressed up nicely and curled my hair expecting my oath to be that day.  But I got "a decision cannot be made".   The officer explained to me that many times junior officers are given the task of doing interview but do not actually have the authority to approve.  This seems to happen a lot at busy offices.

I'm sorry this happened to you, I hope it is a quick turn around.

Good luck

I was in Baltimore and it was certainly packed there! I see that you petitioned your senator too because of your wait. My husband is of the same mindset if it takes too long. Thank you for sharing your experiences!

Perfectly normal. I had my husband with me & there is only 4 years age difference between us & I received the same note at interview. Often the IO is still in training and cannot approve/deny on their own authority but have to run it by a supervisor. This takes some time. I had 17 days between my interview & the "in line for oath scheduling" notice.

Thank you for the response! I just walked out yesterday blaming myself for messing something up. However, after seeing the replies on here, I see that my situation seems to be the norm. Have a great weekend!

Did the IO tell you how you would be notified?  We just went through AOS and were not given approval at the interview as expected, after 15 months of waiting. We felt we were so prepared!  The IO said he would call us and he did call 3 days later and said he still needed to talk to his supervisor. 4 days later he called again and said my husband was approved!  A few hours later it was updated on the site. That was 2 days ago.  Hopefully, you’ll hear something within a few days. Good luck. Keep us updated!

The IO told me to wait for a letter in the mail. I could kick myself though because I was over analyzing everything on the way home and I realized she had swapped a digit of my phone number on the one form she had me sign and I was so nervous, I didn't catch it. Yet, on the website under my account my phone number and email are correct and I have notifications turned on for both. Hopefully that won't mess my case up.

My appointment was also at the end of  a Friday so, I'm assuming it may be a wee bit into next week before I hear anything. Hopefully!

It took about 2 years from the initial interview to the oath ceremony.  I had to get a senator involved because it was taking so long.  I was eventually notified through mail.

Good luck

That's crazy! My husband is all about involving our senator as quickly as possible but I told him we would have to wait for the 120 days to be up before we started stirring the pot. I am so scared of causing trouble and having it hurt my case.

What happened to you N400 application OP? Hopefully you were approved? How long did it take for them to approve and you to take the oath?

I feel terrible not updating.

I received my oath swearing ceremony notice about a week after my citizenship interview. Apparently the people who interview don’t always have the power to give you an immediate yes on the day if your interview - it needs to be reviewed by a superior. I became a citizen on 22 September 2019 🙌🏻
