I came across this post in the processing time thread on ***removed***:

"Look I don't know about others, but mine took only 7 weeks. I applied in May 2006 and I got it approved in July 2006. The only thing I can tell you is that we wrote an email to the district representative, to speed up the process."

So in this email to the district rep what would you include? Any help would be appreciated.

Btw nice site, ima new user and just wanted to say hi, and thanks in advance.

There is no way to expedite these things. Vermont is a quick center, average time for them is 4-5 weeks.

Hey and welcome to VJ!

The only reason you would even contact a district representative or congressman is if your application had either taken substantially longer than the average wait, or USCIS was giving you the runaround. Otherwise, there's no way to expedite the application; if it was possible, you think we would still be here? :)

It's also possible that with the example you gave us, it was approved from the date he sent in his application to the day that he received his NOA2. It may not factor in the length of time it takes for the application to get to the NVC and the interview at the consulate.

When did you file? There is nothing in your timeline. There is no reason to contact a senator or congressman until you are outside of the USCIS processing times posted on your service center's website. Each case is different and requires a different amount of time to adjudicate. If you find yourself in need of assistance, simply find your senator or congressman's website, download the privacy form and fill it out with a request for assistance to inquire on your case. If you are within normal processing time, they will normally not do anything.

I'm guessing the quoted poster meant Member of Congress when he/she wrote "district rep." In that case, as others have said, there isn't much chance that writing your congressman/woman will speed up the process.

HOWEVER, I always encourage people to contact their representatives to let them know more about the people who are involved in this process. Keeps real stories with faceless statistics. That said, I generally encourage non-VSC filers moreso, because if you file through VSC, chances are, you're going to be JUST FINE and through this whole process in less time than it took me - and many others - just to get out of USCIS.

Good luck.
