A hijack post has been removed.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Guys, my fiance has been looking around as she prepares for interview for her K1 visa. One question possible question that is mentioned might be asked is - why do you want to marry the person? and why are you marrying a person who lives in the USA- The obvious possible answers are: Because I love and he loves, because we understand each other etc. But what is the best answer that serves the perfect answer ? Any suggestion? My fiance being from a conservative family - is very concerned about how to answer this obvious question? Any suggestions?

There is no perfect answer to this question. Everyone has their own reasons for marrying their spouse. If asked this question, simply tell the truth. Planning to give the "perfect" answer will probably make that answer sound too prepared and maybe even fake.

Actually, I was asked this question during my K1 interview. And I remember it took a few seconds before I was able to answer, because there were so many reasons and I didn't know where to start. I ended up saying just that, followed by an incoherent list of reasons.

The interview is just a normal conversation, let it come naturally, and don't overthink every question you might possibly get.

I'm responding publicly to this question because, contrary to what a lot of Indians seem to think, there is no one "best" answer to each possible question.

Or, more accurately, the "best" answer is whatever is honest and true in your personal situation

The Indian fiance should think about these questions and what their honest answers would be, and then say that--however "obvious" the question may seem.

The best answer is the true answer.  An immigration interview is the time to get creative based on what one thinks the CO wants to hear.

"The US immigration process requires a great deal of knowledge, planning, time, patience, and a significant amount of money.  It is quite a journey!"

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

That's what I see on numerous forums.. Indians seem to look for the 'best' answer, looking for a response/whatever it takes to get a visa, or minimize chances of a rejection as they put it.

Yep. Some people seem to think that an interview is a test you can study for. Learn all the correct answers, and you get your visa. I'm glad it doesn't work like that.

Going by OP's previous posts, a couple of flags pop out. The CO will likely focus on the 22-yr difference in age. And OP- have you met a second time?

Is your fiance's conservative family allowing their unwed daughter to travel without being married first?

I don't think you can really fault people for thinking that, when result of failing, or being misunderstood in this "friendly" conversation can result in years of delays, and you really have no idea what the other person is thinking. You are hoping, they are honest, objective, and not biased, but you don't really know. So it is only natural to try to figure out "right" answers, while also being aware of trick questions, like the ones about wedding plans. Some people maybe grew up watching that Gerard Depardieu film "Green Card", terrified we won't remember the name of Monticello face cream.

Films portray acting and comedy.. but COs are human; they understand applicants get nervous. In a high fraud country like India, where shady stuff is known to go on, COs look to weed out the shadiness from nervousness.

**Something I heard recently.. a member of a USC family of Indian origin secretly married in India in a small ceremony some years back; the beneficiary entered the US on a fiance visa to get into the US quicker. They've since rued the costs and paperwork associated with AOS. Secretly getting married but using K1 is not uncommon in India, sadly. COs are aware. OP's fiance would have to contend with such issues.

My fiance is a widow- with a 6 years old son. Her previous husband died in a road accident just 2 years after the marriage.  Yes I met her second time this past July. Both of our family is conservative but they know it well that we do care about each other and we do understand each other.
