My husband had his interview this morning. The woman told him 2 documents needed translated and only gave home 2 hours to get it done. He did. Upon returning she seemed annoyed, asked how he got in, obviously a guard let him in! And told him she will contact him next week. What is happening?!

Never heard of only allowing 2 hours for documentation to be turned in; but most likely if she seemed annoyed as he should have handed them in to the front and not to her directly perhaps.

As to what is going on, seems have to now just wait and see what they say once they review the documents.

I think he was fortunate that the officer allowed him to bring the documents back to her.  Usually, they just give a 221g and instructions on how to resubmit the additional papers. That usually takes days.

Perhaps he misunderstood and she said “we are only open for another 2 hours” but didn’t mean he had to return them today, she meant “if you have them with you at your hotel and want to go back and get them we will only be here another two hours”. I’m surprised he was let back in. Normally you have to send missing  documents in the mail so that their receipt date and time can be officially recorded by the mail room employees as all such things (and he won’t be the only one sending in additional documents) are handled in receipt order. She was probably annoyed because she thought he was trying to cut into the line of people waiting for their documents to be processed who sent them by mail.

He was at the US Embassy in Tunis, Tunisia where he lives.  She wanted translations . His appointment was at 9, he  was back to her by 11:30, which is a major feat in Tunis as nothing moves quickly. She wasn’t with anyone else. It’s taken us over 21 months to get this interview, so of course his heart dropped when she asked for things not on the embassy checklist. He brought them anyway but they needed translated.  He said apart from that, her main concern kept returning to my son , who is in college. Like who is paying it, will he come home in summer etc. This is her concern why? My child had worked since he was 16, not to mention I get child support from his father, which is stated in my divorce papers as well as that his father is paying his education costs. So why keep badgering about that of all things?!

Is your son a similar age?

No, my son is 18, my husband is 30.

The reason I asked is because it's a common "red flag" with MENA countries where the American woman is considerably older than the foreign man. I believe they asked about your son's college costs to see if your husband was paying and effectively "buying" a green card. It happens a lot - the man overseas sends money or pays a particular family expense to keep the American woman interested. This doesn't seem to be happening in your case but they wanted to be sure.

Ah I see. Nah, we have been together for years. My son’s father pays his college and will support him up until age 26 because he’s going to be a lawyer.  Also, and I didn’t know this when I met my husband, but Tunisian people cannot send money out of country . I mean I guess when I’m there he could give me money but nothing substantial like college tuition.  I’m independent anyway, I’d never take his money even if he could send it .
