Is there a law that requires a president to release their tax returns?

Not only is there not a law, I don’t really see the point.  I can cheat on my taxes, show you the returns, and it wouldn’t change a thing.  I think Jim thinks that there will be a line on the 1040 that reads:

“Income from helping Putin.......... $43,234,569.

Call me crazy if you will, but I think there is a LOT more reason for people to be upset with Al Sharpton than President Trump over taxes.  It’s not like the IRS is doing anything but auditing him that I am aware of.

I think its funny that some people believe that making Trump release his taxes to the public would somehow magically make the IRS discover something illegal that they haven't already seen in their copy ofTrump's taxes. Talk about grasping at straws.

I never said there was a law.

But the fact is that our last 3 president had no problem showing their tax return.

If there's no point, and you can cheat, then why not just show the returns?

And please stop referring to Al Sharpton.. most of the black community just ignores him. And trump is the president of the United States, I'm not sure how you can logically apply equal weight to both numb skulled public figures.

When Al Sharpton pays all his back taxes, or goes to prison in lieu thereof, then I shall ignore his otherwise useless self.  Has nothing to do with him being black.  He’s a felon on the streets, as far as I am concerned.

”Equal weight” comes from the fact that Trump has done nothing illegal on his taxes (that we know of), yet people give him grief over the returns.  Sharpton has blatantly broken the law, and yet nothing is done to him to rectify the situation.  Hypocrisy, I say.

If he's done nothing illegal why not show his taxes?

This conversation has nothing to do with al sharpton, its suspicious as to why you would even drop his name.

I will always bring up the hypocrisy of allowing illegals to slide while trying to get legals to give more.

What do you think Trump’s tax returns will tell you?  What can you glean from them that the IRS isn’t already aware of?

Al sharpton is not an illegal and this thread (that I created) has nothing to do with immagration.

I won't know until I see it.. its about transparency, that's why its customary for presidential candidates to show them.

Al Sharpton is illegal in the sense that he owes back taxes.  No one is talking about immigration, please let’s stay focused.

So you have no real reason to see Trump’s returns.  Got it.

Did you review Obama’s?  Did you review Hillary’s?

This is the key question here. For some reason the left believes they are better at examining someone's tax documents than the IRS is.

Al sharpton is "illegal" because he owes back taxes?

Alot of normal people owe back taxes, that does not make them "illegal". Most people that owe back taxes are put on a repayment plan with like 6 or 7% interest .

It's not illegal to have debt.

No,  and I probably won't review Trump's, considering the sheer size and complexity of it.

I'll leave it for the experts to dissect.

I work a 4 am to 530 pm job w/ school and family.

Also stop deflecting.. Obama, Clinton and mitt Romney shared their returns.

I’m not deflecting anything.  I just don’t care if Trump shows his returns, nor did I care about Obama’s nor Hillary’s.  In fact, I have never reviewed ANYONE’s tax returns, ever, except for a couple of close friends.  Obama showed his returns, and was a terrible president.  Hillary showed hers, and still deserves to be in prison as much as or more than Trump.  Returns prove nothing, hence my lack of caring.

Ok, Sharpton is not illegal.  Just immoral and a law breaker.  Good on him for having a payment plan, though we will never know just how many millions in back taxes he has actually tried to defraud the US and the state of NY out of.  Piece of work, eh?  Also, having debt is one thing... trying to cheat on your taxes, and getting caught at it, is another.  But we can discuss that in another thread.  The point remains... there is no reason for Trump to share his returns, and it would be particularly difficult to do so, since he is being audited.

It doesn't really matter what you want though.. the discussion is currently on Trump showing America his tax returns. And you litterally tried deflecting by asking me whether i "reviewed Obama or Hillary's." .

What are you afraid of?

And again I could care less about Al sharpton. He is not the president of the United States and he's just one of many people(good or bad) who owes the IRS money.

It has nothing to do with morality as much as it has to to do with mismanagement of assets.

The irony is that you are calling Al sharpton immoral without even knowing Donald trump current status with the IRS because he won't release his returns.

That is some high horse, galloping blindly into battle for king that doesn't give 2 cents about you.

( Well he might.. as long as you are white)

The current democratic governor candidate for GA owes a pile of back taxes. Debt too. Must be a Democrat activist thing

Actually the discussion is supposed to be about an anonymous editorial
