My mom works part time at a concrete place here in Las Vegas doing HR type stuff. About 50 employees have the same SS number. It's done everywhere, legal or not. I can go to the swap meet at pecos and Las Vegas Blvd, the broadacre swap meet and get all the documents I need to work for like 20 bucks. I really don't think anyone cares. Just what I see, I live in reality not fantasy. People work with fake SS numbers, probably in the millions of people that do.

Maybe this is a good time to throw in a plug for LifeLock with their million dollar guarantee...LOL

Here on a K1? Need married and a Certificate in hand within a few hours? I'm here to help. Come to Vegas and I'll marry you Vegas style!!   Visa Journey members are always FREE for my services. I know the costs involved in this whole game of immigration, and if I can save you some money I will!

I hear ya.......Working with a fake SS number is one thing...but working with a stolen SS number is another story. If someone falsely claims to be a US citizen, it results in a permanent bar from residency and naturalization......

That's the big difference I would say. You have to look at it from the government standpoint. They are not going to enforced fake SS numbers because everyone that is out there means SS tax taken out of their paycheck and given to the us government and noone is coming back at tax time to claim it. I read a study once that said that is the only reason social security hasn't gone under. Those fake numbers generate billions of dollars in revenue for the government they can say doesn't exist. If your getting billions of dollars from fake numbers I'm in no big hurry to put a stop to it either.

This is no joke!

I had $14,000 stolen when my social security number was stolen and at the time it was 50/50 I would get it back from my bank. It took 5 weeks but they eventually gave it back to me. Every bank account and credit card I had was frozen (all accounts had to be closed under my social security number because no one knew which accounts were mine or false accounts) and all no one would give me any information about what was going on because the FBI was investigating the case. I literally had no access to any of my money/accounts for a month (this was multiple banks/credit cards).

Lifelock would have been an amazing tool if I knew about it 3 years ago. I missed a week of work because of all of the reports I had to file and all the calls I had to make to ensure no more money was being stolen or purchases were being made with my social security number.

This is why it's no joke and why people should care.  I haven't been in this situation but I know many who have and ALL OF THEM have had similar experiences of a life on hold while a sh*t storm not of their making gets cleaned up.

It's why I get annoyed with the 'don't care' argument.  This is the reality of identify theft.  It's no fantasy.
