If you chose the option on your DS-260, the typical time is a few weeks after entering the US.  If you didn't choose the option on the DS-260, you can go to the local Social Security office with your stamped passport or Green Card.

Hey guys! How long after port of entry do you have to wait to get your social security card?

I checked the box to receive it. But per other posts on here we didn’t wait. My mom took my husband the next week to apply for it.

  • 2 weeks later...

Went to SS office yesterday and they didn't have anything about my wife's SS card in their system. They entered all the information and gave us a confirmation letter that we applied for the SS card. As per SS office, we should get the card now in two weeks.

The whole immigration system is broken as #######. They have no respect of their time and ours.
