We had our AOS interview yesterday at the Detroit Field office and we got approved on the Spot :jest:. Our appointment is at 11:20AM and we reached there and passed through the security around 11:00. And we waited in the large waiting area for about 40 minutes until the Office called my name for the interview. The IO is a very sweet middle aged white lady and she appeared to have gone through my application thoroughly and the moment we walked into her office, she said she doesn't have any questions about the validity of my marriage and she just need to verify some basic information and she would approve my green-card. Everything went very smooth. She just verified the stuff on the forms like my DOB, parents names, current address and when i came into US, what visa statuses i had and so on. And then the mandatory YES/NO questions from form I-485. And then she asked my wife if its her signature on the forms and she checked with me about my signatures as well. The interview lasted for about 15 or 20 minutes and at the end, she said she just approved the Green-card and she ordered for the card. I requested to see if she can place the I-551 stamp on my passport but she said it's only required if I am travelling within the next one or two weeks outside the USA. So I didn't get a stamp on my passport. She explained about the conditional residency and we need to apply for ROC in about 21 months and made us sign a document referring to the 2 year conditional residency and removal of conditions. And we thanked the Immigration officer for her help and support and she walked us out to the waiting area and we thanked her and said good bye for now.

So overall it was a great experience and very easy than i expected. The IO did't even ask for any originals or any documents. We brought with us a whole bunch of documents and 4 albums of pictures. But she did't even look at them. So I believe a strong application with good explanation letter about evolution of relationship helped us alot. The IO even commented it to my wife who wrote the "Evolution of relationship letter" that she loved how my wife explained everything in her letter addressing the officer.

I thank you all the VJ filers for their valuable support and advice they gave me through this AOS journey and I wish you all the very best and hoping for your AOS to go as smoothly as possible. 😁

Congratulations to you :)

I came to know about the "Evolution of Relationship Letter" in internet and thought it would be a great idea. And Indeed it was. Because I have that letter already included in my AOS packet, I didn't get any of those questions. But Detroit office appears to be pretty relaxed and officers are very nice. Unless we have something fishy going on in the application, you should be very good there. the IO just verified my birth details and my parents names and when i came to the USA for the first time and what jobs I did. Whether I broke any laws and the usual I-485 YES/NO questions. And she asked about my baby and my wife and i discussed about her. Other than that it was pretty cool and relaxed. I was so nervous before getting called for the interview but once my wife and I entered the IO's office, we are pretty relaxed and everything was set.

I wish you good luck with your interview. 11:20AM seems to be a good time slot, because right after they are done with our interview, its their lunch time. So they would be in a hurry to finish it up soon. I am hoping your interview would be as easy as mine if not easier and more relaxed. What day you have the interview BTW ???

Congratulations @ttjewell :)

Seems like Detroit office has less number of applicants for interviews.

I had my interview successfully done last week after a 5 month's wait. So now the wait time is 3 months. That is very good news.

My guess would be that the interview date usually is scheduled 36-40 days from the notice of interview letter date. Let's hope your interview gets scheduled sooner than that. Good Luck 👍

@Balaji_v did they say how long it will take for your card to arrive in the mail? All going well we hope to travel to Europe around December 18th.  You mentioned an I551 stamp in your passport perhaps that could be an option for us.

@ttjewell the Officer told me 7 working days. So I am expecting the card in the next couple of days. Online status says "card is mailed to me" but no tracking number yet. So i am hoping by end of this week. Yeah if you are travelling in a week or two after the interview, the IO can place a stamp on the passport. Because i wasnt travelling, I didnt get one. Good Luck with your Interview :)

Please let me know when your card arrives as I would like to know an approximate timeframe so I can tentatively make travel plans for December. Once again congratulations on receiving your free card.
