We have to file our 1-751 paperwork like... by tomorrow because we are cutting it close with our deadline. Our evidence is as follows: joint bank account statement, car insurance statement showing we are both on it, 2 affidavits, our joint tax return, our family plan phone info, and our lease with our names on it. Is this too little of information?

Do you have joint utility bills?  Joint credit card statements?

They want all the bank statements of the past two years? Wow ok I guess I can get that printed as well. and OH I thought we only needed one tax year! Thank you, I'll add that as well. I think our utility bill is only in my name, but I'll double check when I get home.

Everything you send, you want to span the last two years. From the start of marriage to the sending of ROC.

So phone bills, send maybe 8, one for every quarter of the last two years. Bills in your name or bills in his name (or in both names) going to the same house for the last two years. Bank statements from the last two years.

Even if a bill is only in your name, as long as there's some other bills in his name and they all bill to the same home address then it works out. If -everything- is only in your name then they may ask for more evidence as they want to see these financial ties spread between you two.

Also make sure to date the pictures, you don't want 11 pictures from last month, you want pictures spanning the last two years.

Also note that it's taking a long time to get RFE's. Little evidence usually leads to an RFE, so go ahead and start planning. I think you have enough evidence to get by the minimum requirement, but not enough to get straight approved on without getting asked for more.

I don't understand why you would recommend sending every statement since opening an account. I know things change and it all depends on who adjudicates your case, but when we applied for my husband, I sent 2-3 statements of each type (only 2 statements for most of the accounts) and we had no RFEs and no interview. Sending a statement from when your spouse was first put on the account and a recent one with them still listed as well as a couple from the time in between shows that you have mingled your finances. In my opinion, every statement is definitely overkill. It's better to work on having more accounts/documents with both names rather than sending every single statement for only a few accounts.

Because I sent every statement, just to be sure. It worked. OP only had ONE statement to begin with, so that's obviously not enough. BTW I definitely meant every statement since it's a shared account, not from before.

It's a general recommendation currently. People who have had more proof than these guys have gotten RFE's because there is a gap in time of a few months for proof.

With that said, sending 8 bank statements doesn't always mean you have a few accounts.

While I agree that yes, it's best to have both names on every account, it doesn't offset making sure that there are no questions. It's not that hard to get someone added or removed to a bank account (at least not with my bank), at any point between your first statement adding him, and you last statement you showed, you could have removed him and added him back on, that's why it's recommended to have a chain of evidence that shows consistency.

MOST people, again currently, send a bill for every quarter, meaning they could have more accounts, and still send off one for each quarter for each account.

I do stress currently a lot here, times are changing, the process is changing, and what may have gotten by without question before for one or a handful of people isn't really an option for most now.

Yes, I agree that sending a statement for every quarter is not a bad idea. I just think every single statement is overkill, but of course each person's experience is different and what works for one might not work for another.

We have two separate health insurance policies since we work at two different places, so I don't think I could include that. Do we also have to provide photos as well? I didn't see anything in the instructions about providing photos. I read the pinned post at the top but it seems like A LOT of stuff so now i'm panicking thinking I don't have enough!

Don't worry, you covered good amount!!! You have plenty of stuff. The most important stuff are your tax transcripts (joint tax returns) and joint bank account statements showing you are financially co-mingling and include everything from the time you got your conditional GC (and you can ever go further but that should be enough). Lease is also great because it shows that you guys live under the same address. Make a photocopy of your ids as well and put it on top.

Then you can include anything that you guys share together -- phone bills, cable, car insurance. I also included my personal statements showing that I live there like EZPass and car payments (and the lady that was putting together my package said it was great). She even told me not to include photos because I already had a lot, but you can include some, I would say up to 10-15.

I also included misc stuff -- scans of envelopes I received (maybe 3 from each year), some more bills and that's it. 😄

Good luck!!! You will be fine!

Personally I wouldn't stress about sending pictures or even chats unless you want to. I do agree though that you should send tax documents for the last 2 years showing that you filed jointly. As far as bank statements go, I sent a printout that showed when my husband was added to the account and 2 other statements. In my opinion the more things that you both have your names on the better, but obviously you can't send what you don't have. Sending all your bank statements is definitely not necessary. Do you have any children together? Do you have any credit cards with both of your names on the account? Do you have any car titles with both of your names on them? My list was similar to yours when we filed (although we had a few more joint accounts) and we were approved with no RFE and no interview. Good luck!

yeah, we included our tax documents from the two years, also I did end up printing all my bank statements ahahaha. We have no kids together, but we do have a dog, so I included that in our photos together. We don't have any credit cards, and my husband doesn't drive right now so the car is just in my name lol. I also found my benefits saying that my husband is a beneficiary and I think i found one other thing as well to add. We also added 10 pictures of us with family and friends.
