Hello everyone,

I and the wife are thinking of applying for a CR1 in June or July. Is the police certificate submitted at the I130 stage? if that's the case then I'd need to work on it soon.

If it's at a later stage then I can delay it.

Also, I didn't read through all the pages. Where Canadians are supposed to get their police certificate from?

Thanks.

Nope, it should be only when your wife goes for the interview, the RCMP security clearance check is only valid for one year and sometimes i-130's take over one year to complete!

I'm the Canadian one, not my wife but anyways. This is something we take with us to the interview in Montreal?

Is there a link you can share from the RCMP website?

Thanks.

The RCMP could not help me. They directed me to Commissionaires

https://commissionaires-cgl.ca/

What I did was type on google maps "fingerprint services" and found one near by, contacted them by phone and asked them if they could provide me with "rcmp fnigerprint security clearance check" and they said they could do it.

and yes you will be given instructions much later to have it done, it is too early right now as your petition hasn't even been accepted yet.

Hey guys, Kindly excuse my lack of knowledge. On the fingerprint form I know where to check the Privacy Act option. But one of the other requirement is:  You must also specifically request the record which includes the “RCMP National Repository entire holdings.”  Now my question is where and how do I request/specify this? I don't see any check boxes or sections for this one.

Hey,

How long did it take for the police certificate to come in once you went to the Commissionaires? I'm just wondering when in the process I should get this done.

Thanks.

I think it took me about a week or so to get it. Maybe two at most.

You dont but as long as you're using an official source they will check that.

Guys, I applied for the certificate from outside of Canada. I received my certified fingerprint certificate in less than 3 weeks but that was not accepted by the NVC so I reapplied for the one under Privacy act. It's been 3 weeks and I haven't yet received the privacy one. Does it take longer for the privacy one? Also can someone please explain to me the difference between those two, not in terms of how they appear but in terms of how the search is done?

Hello everyone!!

I live in Vancouver and just went to the Burnaby RCMP office to request my Police Certificate, only to be turned away because I didn’t live in Burnaby. They told me to go to the VPD to get this completed.

I then went to the VPD office off Boundary Road and was told that they don’t do “certified” criminal record checks and that whatever the website is telling me is incorrect. Confused (and sort of desperate) at this point.

I then went on to read directly off of the website saying that I require the record under the privacy act which includes the “RCMP National Repository entire Holdings” and not for the purpose of “Visa/Border Crossing”. This costed $60.

She seemed to understand what I was looking for because she took my finger prints and photo and informed me that I’d be getting the paperwork sent to me within 2 weeks.

After reading through this thread, I know some people ended up bringing other police certificates with them. But given your experiences, will the one I completed suffice?

Thank you so much in advance!
