I’m at commissionaires right now and the woman explained what happened was that the US went against RCMP best practice and that you should and need to get both the certified and non certified but I won’t  need the regular police check. She knew exactly what I was talking about when I mentioned it

My fiance went to RCMP this morning, he went to the detachment and was told he needed to go to a station, then someone else told him he needed to go somewhere else entirely....they also told him they don't think he's allowed to get both, what?? lol...he's currently stressing out and in an Uber on the way to the station. I pray they have a better clue than the other people he spoke to.

Hey guys!

I had my interview this morning at 8AM and I had two checks with me: Privacy Act check and Certified Criminal Record check via fingerprinting (CCRC). They took the Privacy Act one and gave me the CCRC back. As he was reading the Privacy Act one, he mentioned that they didn’t want the other check anymore and it was smart to have both.

I strongly suggest you get both just to be safe. It may depend on the officer you get, but this was my experience this morning!

I have no idea why ours came up free. We just got the privacy act check from Deer Lake Ave RCMP office in Burnaby BC. So if anyone out there lives in Burnaby, that office is the ticket for free privacy acts! lol

So: This morning I called the Commissionaires office in the city where I live, told the officer that I heard about this change in requirements, and asked about getting the fingerprint check under the Privacy Act. He said that JUST THIS MORNING they received a notice from Ottawa telling them about it, and assured me that if I go this morning to get my fingerprints done I should have the certificate by the time I leave for my interview. However, I then called the office in Vancouver (where I am for a few days because I had my medical in Surrey), and the woman there said that they also go the notice, but then were instructed NOT to provide those certificates because the new requirements are "against their better practices," and it's all under review. So basically she acknowledged that I might have to present this different certificate, but couldn't guarantee that they would process one for me until they've sorted it out. Which leaves those of us who have upcoming interviews in a bit of a fix! I'm going to try showing up to the office and see what they are willing to do, and then if they can't do it for me I'll go to the nearest RCMP and try to get it figured out. 😅

How did it all turn out in the end? I need to get my police check done this week in Vancouver and I’m not even sure I know where to go yet!

Hey - I don't know if there will be a huge difference in stations, but if you live in Vancouver, I recommend going direct to an RCMP station, it looks like the Richmond station serves Vancouver and they do police certs and fingerprinting.... We went to the main office in Burnaby where my fiance lives and were able to get the Privacy Act for free exactly as described in the reciprocity page and the officer there knew exactly what my fiance needed for our purposes. The info on the Burnaby page looks exactly like the one for the Richmond office, so I'm hoping they are similar but I don't know for sure if living in the area the office serves affects anything.

Thanks! Yeah I think I’m going to go directly to the RCMP station in Vancouver and hopefully they’ll be able to help!

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but what is the difference between going to the RCMP and Commissionaires? There's a Commissionaires office downtown so if there isn't a huge difference it would be easier when the time comes for us to go there rather than to the RCMP in either Richmond or Burnaby.
