I went to Commisionaires at 15 Toronto St in Toronto but they have offices all over the country according to the RCMP dude I spoke to on the phone

Thanks!

I found one in Hamilton which is closest to me, they’re closed till Monday so I’ll give them a call first thing. It’s kinda ridiculous how many branches there are in Canada. For my UK check, it was literally one form that I filled out online that took 20 minutes. In Canada you gotta jump through 50 hoops and decode exactly what they’re asking for 😭😭

Dont forget to tell them this:  Good Luck :)

Procedure for Obtaining: To obtain this document, you must submit your fingerprints to a local police service or RCMP-approved partner agency.  YOU MUST STATE THAT YOU ARE REQUESTING THE RECORD UNDER THE PRIVACY ACT.  Do not select “Visa/Border Crossing” as the purpose of the request AND NOT GIVE “VISA/BORDER APPLICATION” AS THE PURPOSE OF THE REQUEST.  You must also specifically request the record which includes the “RCMP National Repository entire holdings.”

My K1 visa was approved on Sep 26. At the first window they asked for a “police certificate.” I handed them the visa/border with fingerprints and photo. I did not volunteer the info that I have 2 other police checks (name check and privacy act). This may not apply to everybody so it’s better to have them all ready just in case they ask.

I'm a bit confused! I went to the RCMP today and they sent me to Commissionaires. I wasn't able to get anything done today since it was late in the day but they explained to me that the Privacy Act is no longer certified and therefore has no fingerprints or embossing on the certificate. They said they could still do it but is there another certified police check I can get with fingerprints included? (I already have the regular police certificate from local police!)

Thanks! Seems like the whole process is very vague right now lol

The Privacy Act police certificate is not a certified document, won't have the fingerprints or a photo on it, nor will it have any embossing either. That's the one that is required for the interview.  There is another police check that is certified, with fingerprints and photo on it.  A few other people got the regular fingerprint check done, saying the reason is for visa/immigration and that one is certified, with fingerprints and photo on it.  Some people are bringing all three with them as a just in case kinda thing.

My police certificate under Privacy Act says

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Dear Sir / Madam:
Your application for personal information held in the databank CMP-PPU-030 has been processed. No personal information about you was found in the databank CMp-ppu-030."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mine does not say anything about RCMP National Repository entire holdings, as mentioned in the requirements on https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Visa-Reciprocity-and-Civil-Documents-by-Country/Canada.html
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You must also specifically request the record which includes the “RCMP National Repository entire holdings"

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For those of you who have obtained police certificate under Privacy Act, is this what your certificate says as well or does it mention RCMP National Repository entire holdings?

Actually, before all of this fiasco, I had simply gone to the Calgary Police and requested a criminal check, with US immigration as they reason for the request. And then this who thing happened. Then I went through numerous calls and visits to the RCMP and Commissionaires, and was told that no privacy act certified criminal check with finger prints can be done. Commissionaries agreed to do a finger print-based criminal check if I paid them their fee of $86 or so, but only under Visa/Border Crossing as the reason. So I did that. And then I randomly called RCMP again, and they said they would do the finger print based criminal check under privacy act. I did that too.

Yesterday I got the RCMP one back but it doesnt have finger-prints on it. However, it does say that it was requested under Privacy Act. The one I had submitted was the first one, from Calgary Police. Seems I might be getting a checklist too, even though the lady from the NVC said that I should submit whatever one I had.

Does your police certificate say anything about RCMP National Repository entire holdings?

No, it does not. But it does say that it is the "Privacy Act Type". And that's about it. As others have pointed out, it clearly says that the finger prints and the picture were destroyed, and it has no embossed seal...just the signature of the very same person who signed off on the certified criminal check with embossed logo and the finger prints/picture.

One more follow up question, does your police certificate say the following

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Dear Sir / Madam:
Your application for personal information held in the databank CMP-PPU-030 has been processed. No personal information about you was found in the databank CMp-ppu-030."

I’ll double check mine as far as exactly what it says but I know it DOES NOT say anything about the RCMP repository holdings etc. From what I remember Darth, it is almost exactly like you described. No picture, no prints, no embossed seal, and definitely does state that it’s done under the privacy act.

I scheduled my interview for October 17 on Friday last week and I went to the commissionaire’s offices yesterday for the privacy act check. The lady there advised me the check may take longer than usual because it’s a relatively “new” thing.

I got the finger print certified criminal record check done last month so I have that, but I’m honestly a little nervous I won’t get the privacy one in time.

How long did it take to receive yours in the mail? I’m from Vancouver BC.

Thank you guys!

I got mine from the commissionaires also, also in BC. I ordered the privacy act check on a Monday, and it arrived the next Wednesday, but I was already in Montreal at my interview! 😂 I was pretty stressed about it, but they took my certified name check certificate (that I had already got before this whole mess started) and no one mentioned the new requirement at all. You'll get yours in time I'm sure! Make sure you take the other version too :) Good luck in Montreal - they're super nice!
