Houston will be your POE. Likely you won't have enough time. Are you booked on a through-ticket? Or two separate tickets?

My flight is a through-ticket and my case is pivot everything was online just in case that’s relevant.

How long this process normally takes just to know when to get the next ticket.

It depends. Some people take 5 minutes. I was in secondary for 2.5 hours because the airport was so busy and there was someone ahead of me who needed a translator.

If lots of international flights arrive at the airport around similar time as yours, which is usually the case, then you’ll probably miss the next flight due to long lines at the custom. In that case, your carrier will put you in the next available flight as long as it’s a through ticket.

Usually during international to domestic transfer in US, one need to go through the custom/immigration, collect the bags, check in the bags again, go thru the security to get to the next flight. So overall it takes times. You would be lucky if you make it.

Not a chance.  Customs is short.  Immigration is the problem.  Houston is always our POE.  When my wife came through with the envelope last time we (the kiddos and I) waited down in baggage claim for about an hour while they did their thing in the secret room with the secret envelope.

You need about 4 hours minimum to deplane, get through immigration, collect your bags, get through customs, check back in, and go back through security in Houston.

In your place I would go ahead and re-book.  You will not make it through all of these steps in an hour and a half.

I see a pattern on the replies to this post. My wife, too, had 3 hours and barely made her connection at her POE, Miami. They held her in secondary for 2.5 hours.

Just to offer a data point different to those who experienced 3 hours of wait time: When my wife had her POE we got through immigration and customs in about 15 minutes at the DFW airport. There weren't many people in line at immigration and we only waited around 2-3 minutes to see an officer. The officer looked at her packet for about 30 seconds, did a few things on the computer, and waved us through. We weren't directed to go to secondary. This took no longer than 90 seconds. Likewise, the line was short at customs and we got through with no problems.

First time immigrants should allow as much time as possible during their POE, but it is possible to get it all done in only a few minutes.
