Hi guys, I've been living in Seoul for 5 years now and live with my wife in Seoul. I will be traveling to US for work for a few months and just realized how much shorter time it takes if I do a DCF. I can't make it to the USCIS in Seoul before my trip and was wondering if I can have the DCF submitted on my behalf? I have all documents and resident card with valid expiration date.

It looks like it's taking people 3-4 months until their spouse gets their visa when submitting for DCF while in Korea versus the typical 8-12 months it takes when filing from US. It sounds like it might even be faster to wait and file when I get back from the work trip.

You can prepare the package and file to the lockbox tomorrow.  Many people file petitions from overseas.

But he's wanting to file via DCF in South Korea, which requires the petition to be submitted in person at the embassy in Seoul. It sounds like he doesn't have time to go to the embassy before his work trip. If he files to the lockbox, he's looking at 12-14 months for approval. If he files in Seoul, he's looking at 2-3 months.

@lain09 As long as your work trip is shorter than 9 months or so, and if you can prove that you've maintained residency in South Korea, then yea, wait and file when you return. It'll be shorter and easier.
