Damn, looks I've been waiting quite a while compared to some of you here. My PD is OCT 2016 and I have not yet received a CC yet. Waiting for them to confirm my RFE-the scanner documents were orientated incorrectly...🙄

 

Seems like some people have been paying attention to the timelines in this thread- is there an estimate from CC to Interview date?

Called NVC today.  My first call to them.  Was ... a little stressful.  But the clerk was very nice.  I just wanted to feel out what it was like to call with questions.  I wanted to see if they received my case from Texas.  Yes! On August 22 (I'll update my timeline).  But no case number yet.

 

Also, based on all the chat here, my husband and I are no on top of ordering the appropriate police records.  I'll share any details when he goes to get his.

Just returned from the RCMP and asking for my Certified Criminal Record Check. They only charged me $25.00 even though the charge should have been,  I think she said $101.00. She said each time the computer system is used for a finger print Certified Criminal Record Check the charge is $101.00 but since I was just there on Aug 27/2018 and already paid $76.00 (hope this amount is right) for the name and date of birth search she would only charge me $25.00. 😊 I had the Printout again with me, from the NVC website, showing the exact requirements effective Sept 10/2018 (today). I strongly stated that the finger print Certified Criminal Record Check must have the information stated from the NVC and pointed to the Printout showing the new requirements. The information officer read it twice and also kept the printout with my written request. She acknowledged that yes they are all now aware of this new requirement, they weren't before but are now and that they did not receive much notice of this change. She said that it is a big change requesting a Certified Criminal Record Check and she made it sound like its a big deal going through the Privacy Act to get this information.

All throughout the conversation, she did not mention anything about anything being certified or uncertified so I asked and she said all "Certified Criminal Record Checks" are sent to Ottawa and are Certified.

Besides the written request for the Certified Criminal Record Check and the Payment of $25.00 she also took my picture (she said was only for the local RCMP use) then also my finger prints were taken (first my right hand, then my left hand and at the same time my 2 thumbs). She said I should receive the results in about 2 weeks but sometimes it is 120 days. I asked it what circumstances would it be 120 days and she did offer much of an explanation except that the request is sent to Ottawa, they had to go through the Privacy Act and it depends how many requests Ottawa has at the same time my request is received.

im heading there tonight after work so I’m glad to hear they are more aware of the new procedure.

 

you said in a previous post hat you had called surrey RCMP. Is that where you went? I ask because that’s where I’m headed.

Yes, where my husband called is where I went. Make sure the location you go to does the Criminal Record Checks. If you look on the RCMP website and then find a Detachment (on the right side of page) for where you live, it will have the Services that are available for that location. It will also have the hours of operation and address. I am glad it helped. 😊 Hope everything works out when you get there. Good luck !

If you look on the RCMP website and then find a Detachment (on the right side of page) for where you live-I believe you need to go to the location closest to the city where you live. You can always call them before you go, to be sure its the right location. The website will have the Services that are available for that location.  OK so I got an update on the fingerprints with the privacy act. The new difference is that under the privacy act if someone had a criminal Record that was suppressed for any reason, a basic fingerprint search by the RCMP would not show that since it was a suppressed record. The privacy act search checks any possible criminal record whether it’s actively on someone’s record or had been suppressed at any point for any reason. Basically, the state department is trying to find out if you’ve had any criminal charges a record ever… Despite its ability to be hidden.

 

Thanks Darth for getting me on the hunt.  I’m just the type of person that needs to know why there is a change, and after multiple phone calls I got my answer. 

 

 So, case closed, we all need fingerprints under the privacy act. When I spoke with the RCMP again today they said to make sure, be very specific, that you let the people doing your fingerprints know that it HAS TO BE DONE under the privacy act. That way there is no accidental fingerprints done without the privacy act. As far as processing times go, here in Ontario they process within 3 to 10 business days if there is no criminal record history at all. 

 

Anyone else have any new news or insights to share on any of this process? Anyone received an embassy date?

I went to the RCMP today to get the new check and they were very aware of it. She had her own printout from the NVC Reciprocity page and followed it exactly. She said that they have been super busy with these requests starting last week but it really picked up yesterday. 

 

Being on on the west coast means it will be a little slower for us because the fingerprints are sent digitally but the results are returned by standard mail (and have to travel from Ottawa). She also told me that they have to say it can take up to 120 days but she said that’s typically only for people with extensive criminal records. People with smaller or no records should expect them within a couple weeks.

 

Based on the fact that she says it has been really busy, I’m going to expect three weeks for mine even without a criminal record.

In my city you have to first make an appointment to get the fingerprint check done, which i did this morning.  Can't get mine done until the beginning of October but on the website it states that you can not give "visa/border crossing or application for reason for the request.  So what do we put there? I asked her if she could just put personal use, and she wasn't sure she could.  She gave me an appointment date and said she would have to check and call me back and let me know if she could put anything there other than visa/border/immigration.

P.S.  She also told me that I was the first to come in with this new info and they were not aware of this new change.  She was very confused on what to do but was very nice and helpful.

Nobody is really 100% sure on who is or isn't going to need this and when.  Eventually, everyone will have to get this done but not sure if the ones who have CC will be fine with the old police certificate or what.  Most of us are doing it anyway as a "just incase" its needed right now.  We just have to wait and see what's going to happen.

Does anyone know if these fingerprint checks under privacy act will have fingerprints on the certificate? I had mine done at Commissionaires in downtown Toronto today and the guy said RCMP has told them that certificate under privacy act will not have the fingerprints on them.
