the number is correct, but its based on federal poverty guidelines not state.

$20K in california, you're homeless and living under a bridge FYI ...

You will have to reach that minimum regardless of K1 or CR1 (initially for K1 it is slightly lower but for AOS it has to be higher)

My partner is on SSDI, that limits us applying for K1, though his family is capable of supporting us for some reason coz they have business but still k1 is not allowing co-sponsorship and the business is not under my partner's name.

are you positive the phillipines doesnt allow a cosponsor for K1? I thought they were one of the consulates that was more laid back about it

and if they dont - travel to a third country that you can both go where same sex marriages are legal.  canada comes to mind, but there are others as well. you have to google it.

Nothing changes the fact that for a CR1 he will need a cosponsor. That requirement does not go away because you are married.

There are those of us who would disagree with that statement.

Yeah i know...but i am talking in context to same sex couples who r living in a country where same sex marriages r not legal..for them i guess its better to apply K1 rather thn going to a third country getting married thr n then going for CR1

Yea, every case is different.  A CR-1 isn't "one size fits all" by any means. Thanks...

Manila COs generally only allow a co sponsor for the I-134 on a case by case basis (usually a close family member).

That said, Manila COs rarely even ask for an I-134 anymore. One should be ready in case they do request it, but they most likely won't.

But I concur...looking at getting married abroad would be preferable all around. It's not required to do so, but would probably be a better fit (based on the limited circumstances stated here..obviously that could change with more info).

If meeting poverty guidelines are an issue, is there money to travel for a wedding in a third country?

Also so as someone who got married in a third country, realize that just recognizing same sex marriage isn’t enough.  Many countries require at least one of the parties be a citizen.  The paperwork can be burdenedsome and lengthy, and many countries have the requirement you both apply in person 2 or more weeks before the wedding date and wait in the country till the wedding and bring witnesses to sign.

I found Iceland the only viable option.

You can marry in my home country Argentina. Lot of couples from other countries go there for a civil ceremony and it''s all legal. It was the first country is all South America that recognized same sex union. I owe you if they allow religious ceremonies at churches, etc since it's such a catholic country and everything.

Yes, K1 is a very good idea but not in our case. My boyfriend can't meet the poverty guidelines coz he is under disability and stop working three years ago. So in order for my partner to meet the poverty guidelines he needs a co-sponsor whether it's his parents, sister, friend or relative. K1 don't allow co-sponsor, but CR1 spouse visa do.

The USEM does allow sponsors on a case by case basis.

Denmark is really easy for 2 foreigners to marry. Finances and for a Filipino to get a tourist visa might be the biggest issues.
