Can anyone advise please?

I travelled to the UK and EU using my British paassport

i am flying back today and cannot find my expired green card I think it maybe at home in California

I do have my 1 year extension letter will this be okay? I also have a pic of my green card on my phone

I changed my name in my British passport to my New last name and have my California ID and my old passport not that I think that matters

am I going to have a problem?

Typically you need the original expired green card and original extension letter.

In your case you will almost certainly be sent to Secondary who will wring their hands, do a few additional checks to ensure things are the way you say they are, and then probably admit you.

I think the big hurdle will be getting through airport check-in.  According to the carrier guide you will need both the expired GC and the extension letter for the airline to allow you on the plane (airlines face fines if they allow someone on the plane without proper documentation to enter the U.S.).  You may be able to convince them with a picture of the GC, but that really depends on the airline employee.  If you get past that hurdle, then I agree, most likely secondary at the POE, but you should be admitted once they can verify things.

Good Luck!

Thank you all for your help and advise really appreciated it!

So I checked in at Paris airport (extremely worried) and the check in agent took my UK passport (with married name ) and extension letter to go speak to her supervisor ( at this point I was sure I would be stuck in france)

she came back 5 mins later and said she had to check my documents and all is ok looked at the picture on my phone of the green card just to get the number she said and printed my boarding pass and off I went.

the entire flight dreading boarder control in NY I was placed in the first time arrivals line instead of the gc line. I handed my documents to the agent - current passport in married name, extension letter, old passport in Maiden name (to show k1 visa and that I had been there before ) also my California State  ID card and told him I had a picture on my phone of the gc front and back

he was really friendly and took me to secondary processing right away he asked me to take a seat and he handed my documents to another agent and explained what had happened as I stated it - I heard him tell the agent that I am not sure if you want to see her or not but just in case

I was called up within 2mins and was asked what happend and if I was still married I said of course and he laughed then he stated  he did not care about the expired gc as I had the extension letter advised me to go to my local office in CA to report it missing just in case someone tries to use it.

and within a total of 5mins I was off to collect my bags and head out to see my husband

I think I just got really lucky!
