On the last note, I've hired a CPA. I'm trying to get in contact with my boss to get someone to cover my hours at work for the first few hours at work so I can sit down with the CPA. He sounded very knowledgable over the phone, and has prior experience working with people in the same situation as mine. He said we should be able to file jointly, get some money back, and it not take any longer than filing seperately.

I'll know more about it tomorrow.

Thing is, my wife still needs to wait until the 20th of September to receive her Thai Police clearance (she filed for it on the 20th of August, and they said it would take a whole month or so to be ready). So there is a good possibility this won't delay anything. FINGERS CROSSED!

Without spouse's  Social Security number or an ITIN, you can not file a joint return.......

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

My wife can go to a "Certifying Acceptance Agent" in Thailand, where they verify her ID on the spot. Then they take the W7 Application and 1040.  It can ONLY be done at "CERTIFYING Acceptance Agents" and not just "Acceptance Agents" . As soon as the tax forms are accepted... I'm sure my wife can get a receipt from their office showing that the tax forms were submitted. So I guess I can include that in with 1040 scanned images, that I submit to the NVC site. That way they know it was submitted to the an overseas Acceptance Agent.

Actually the CPA was not aware of Certifying Acceptance Agents, and also thought my wife would have to fork over her Passport for a while. But I learned (either on here, or through some googling, don''t remember where) about the Certifying Acceptance Agents that allows you to keep your passport. My wife kind of needs that, considering she is as an OFW in Thailand.

Just now while typing this response, I got a call from my Supervisor letting me know I'm good for tomorrow. *YES!!!*  I can go to my CPA tomorrow and get this taken care of.

Sounds good - best of luck to you. And yes filling jointly didn't take long at all 👍
