Tax years 2014, 2015, 2016 are all filed and in the IRS transcripts. I also have W2s for those years as well. I also have 2017's W2s. Do you think they might be willing to accept the W2s, since I have a complicated tax matter?

It was also in YOUR interest to know if your employer offer health insurance or not. It would be the first thing I'd like to know about. Anyway.

It's not a complicated tax matter. Go to the tax center, like HR block or something and they will help you.

I worked for the company previously, and they were always very cheap and never provided us with any benefits. So it was a safe bet to assume that they didn't provide any benefits. Also, STANDARD PROCEDURE for most companies, is to announce at time of hire... of any benefits that the employee has available to them.

It is a pretty crappy company, but they are flexible with vacation time, hire on the spot... and allow me a lot of downtime to study on the job. On the plus side, we are soon going to be receiving a substantial raise.

Regardless, I'm not going to argue about this. Sure, this is my fault...

Fine, I accept that. I just need help fixing this now.

I believe Turbotax or tax software in general will figure out the health insurance reconciliation for you. Can you just do it yourself with one of those programs?

I tried with hr block... but it cant seem to understand that my wife is a nonresident alien and demands information that I cant provide.

Is there a customer service phone number for the program you can call to walk you through that part?

You’ve got to file.

When you are going through any immigration process it’s important you do things to a t.

Make sure you file on time next year as well.

you should have filed jointly even with her out of the country

she fills out form W7 (as i had Adil do when we married in morocco)

she will be ssigned an I TIN ( refer to IRS for info on what to include with taxes to prove marriage, etc)

then you claim her as spouse

The ITIN (indivudual taxpayer ID number) is for mostly used in these cases when spouse is not here yet or for a foreign worker here has no SS#

Adil was on my 2010, 2011,2012, 2013, 2014 taxes and did not get his visa till 2015

at the time I file, can't I just photocopy the Return and W2 before I send it out, and submit that with the NVC?

Misrepresentation is a very serious matter...........I would suggest you avoid it at all costs.

It requires only your wife's name.....and the letters "NRA" in her social security number field.  You can file married separately..........or you can try to get her a ITIN if you want to file jointly.

All this over $500.... when he said he owed “a lot of money” I was thinking he meant thousands.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

and I certainly wouldn't try something so foolish as to photocopy a tax return (for NVC to see)  BEFORE I submitted it, then fail to send it to the IRS
