My aunt who is a US citizen asked me to help her file for her daughter who is above the age of 21 years, married and also has a son who is 9 months old. Surprisingly I couldnt find much information regarding the documents required to be submitted along with the form i-130 for child (son/daughter).  I would really appreciate if someone can give me a list of documents that need to be sent along with i-130 form for married child (f3 category).

1) In the i-130 instructions, all it says is that a proof of citizenship and birth certificate is needed. Is that really all?
2) Does her daughter also need to submit her marriage certificate and her baby's birth certificate since they will be included in the petition.

hi

yes for the first question, no for the second.

the i130 is to establish the relationship between mother and daughter, daughter's birth certificate, showing her mother is her mother and her mother's proof of citizenship since she is married

the rest of the documents will be sent at the nvc stage many years later

depending on the country, it takes 14 or more years of waiting

To add to what aleful said - the reason none of the other documents are required yet is because it takes so long to get to the stage of actually being able to apply for a visa - a lot can happen in 14+ years - divorce, new husband, new kids, existing kids aging out, etc - so evidence of derivatives is only dealt with much later on.

@aleful and @SusieQQQ Thank you for the responses. Yes it makes sense now why the other documents will be needed later.

So to sum it up, we need the completed and signed i130 + proof of citizenship from the mother and birth certificate for the daughter

No 2x2 pics or passport copy or anything else right? Please correct me if im wrong. Im surprised how incredibly straightforward this step is for this category!

You’re going to look different and have a new passprt in 14 years’ time.... yes the first step is just establishing that the petitioner has the required relationship with the beneficiary. All the other stuff comes later.
