Quick question on filing N-400 online, do we have to be in the US soil to do that?

The form doesn’t say anything about that. I do do know that you have to have been resident in the state/USCIS district where you’re filing for at least three months so if you are living abroad, I think that would be a problem.

 

Oh, and you have to do biometrics so that’d require you to be stateside!

Thank you. Ya, it can become a problem when they send out another biometric appointment.

I wonder if anyone from September filer has submitted for N-400.

They can't yet - well, probably not. You can't file until 90 days before your three year anniversary as a lawful permanent resident (for us married-to-US-citizen folks anyway). USCIS has a handy tool to help figure out when that is.

After a little digging (under the 'Where To File' section), it seems that I misspoke:

 

"If you are applying based on your military service, are applying from outside of the U.S., or are applying for a fee waiver or reduced fee, you cannot file your Form N-400 online. Please see section 2 or 3 below for how to file your form by mail."

 

Looks like, if you are outside the US, you are required to file on paper. How unhelpful.

I highly doubt anyone here filed for N400 yet. My GC expired in October and I can’t apply for N400 till end of July.

ya, won't be able to apply until June,  might as well wait until July to be on the safe side as to not get penalized for early filing.

No biometrics appointment letter yet. No updates since NOA1... Not really worried anymore since i'm not the only one but it does stress me out when i read Januari 2019 filers getting biometrics. Did we file during a bad time? Backlog? Seems Januari is moving faster than us.

Wow! January filers they are lucky... Now I am worried.

I advise you dont feel comfortable if any Sept filler is yet to get biometric by now or extension letter. Call them.

I don’t think it’s a bad thing that some of us have not received biometrics letter. It’s done case by case bases. It seems like they are re-using our old ones.

Texas. Two different officers told me both biometrics and interviews are done case by case bases so I am not alarmed.

I filed a request for my State Rep to look into my case early last week.

 

My situation is a bit different as I had originally filed my N-400 under the 5 year rule - during the final interview, the officer found that I had been accidentally issued a 10 year green card when I should have been issued a 2 year and needed to urgently file a I-751

As such my ROC was a few years late - thankfully I was able to get an official letter from them claiming responsibility.

 

My stated rep's team has been great and is looking to  help shift both the I-751 and N-400 along

Just getting the same spiel.

 

"Its not available in the system yet, you just have to wait."

 

Its irritating... I am worried at this point that what if biometrics letter gets lost in the mail and i dont call em on time because ive decided not to wait on it anymore. Im screwed then... Havent visited visajourney in two months. I continued life i have better things to do than waiting on USCIS all day.
