so you're saying csc actually do take the form g~1145?i thought they dont which is why i didnt put one for my husband, otherwise i would have

The new filing places are all lock boxes so you can send in the g1145 and you will get the receipt notices by phone and email.

Before you sent your docs to a service center (csc and vsc) and service centers do not send the email and phone notices.

The letter doesn't have to arrive before the expiration of the green card, you just have to make sure your application is sent before the expiration and they'll still issue the letter.

It helps of course to waylay some of the anxiety many people experience during the process.  :)

And also if there's an issue, like a missing check or something they need to do the initial processing, they could send the packet back.  Several reasons why sending earlier is always best, but not necessary.

Even though the letters should be sent within 7-10 days, my husband's application is beyond that time and we still haven't received the hard copy letter.  USCIS has several issues at the moment--one of them being slow lol

Thanks for the explanation, but.. if i do not get the extension letter before my GC expires, that means that i can't leave the country? I fly every week for work.

When did you guys receive the text/email from USCIS accepting your case?

Well, that's why I sent my package day 2 of my 90 days window and why I highly recommend people who travels to fill out the form as soon as possible. I need that letter before my GC expires.

I got the email & text one day after you, so i will keep an eye on your posts!! 😁

My point is:

The USCIS Luckbox facility located in Dallas/Lewisville is making mistakes. When they accept I-751 petitions, they should send us the Receipt Notice (I-797), actually they didn't. I got this conclusion based on some earlier filers' experience.

The I-797 (extension letter) should arrive in 7-10 calendar days, not business days. USCIS will say that if they mean calendar days.

Hope I explained it clearly.

I understand.. so what can we do? Let's hope for the best. At least we are in Texas Service Center. In California takes 6 weeks just to accept the case.

My big concern is to receive that letter before my GC expires to be able to travel outside the country.

I've cancelled our plans. The flight was refundable and while I think we'll have the extension letter before we leave (Oct 30, GC expires Nov 5, we return Nov 8), the hotel needs a non refundable deposit and I don't want to stress about it.

Marriage/ AOS Timeline:

23 Dec 2015: Legal marriage

23 Jan 2016: Wedding!

23 Jan 2016: "Blizzard of the Century", wedding canceled/rescheduled (thank goodness we were legally married first or we'd have had a big problem!) :sleepy:

24 Jan 2016: Small "civil ceremony" with friends and family who were snowed in with us. December was a bit of a secret and people had traveled internationally and knew we *had* to get married that weekend, and our December legal marriage was nothing but signing a piece of paper at our priest's kitchen table, without any sort of vows etc so this was actually a very special (if not legally significant) day. (L)

16 Apr 2016: Filed for AOS and EAD/AP (We delayed a bit-- no big rush, enjoying the USCIS break)

23 Apr 2016: Wedding! Finally! :luv:

27 Apr 2016: Electronic NOA1 for all 3 :dancing:
29 Apr 2016: NOA1 Hardcopy for all 3
29 Jul 2016: Online service request for late EAD (Day 104)
29 Jul 2016: EAD/AP Approved ~3 hours after online service request
04 Aug 2016: RFE for Green Card (requested medicals/ vaccination record. They already have it). :ranting:
05 Aug 2016: EAD/AP Combo Card arrived! (Day 111)
08 Aug 2016: Congressional constituent request to get guidance on the RFE. Hoping they see they have the form and approve!

K-1 Visa Timeline:

PLEASE NOTE. This timeline was during the period of time when TSC was working on I-129fs and had a huge backlog. The average processing time was 210+ days. This is in no way predictive of your own timeline if you filed during or after April 2015, unless CSC develops a backlog. A backlog is anything above the 5-month goal time listed on USCIS's site

14 Feb 2015: Mailed I-129f to Dallas Lockbox. (L) (Most expensive Valentine's card I've ever sent!)

17 Feb 2015: NOA1 "Received Date"
19 Feb 2015: NOA1 Notice Date
08 Aug 2015: NOA2 email! :luv: (173 days from NOA1)

17 Aug 2015: Sent to NVC

?? Aug 2015: Arrived at NVC

25 Aug 2015: NVC Case # Assigned

31 Aug 2015: Left NVC for Consulate in San Jose

09 Sep 2015: Consulate received :dancing: (32 days from NOA2)

11 Sep 2015: Packet 3 emailed from embassy to me, the petitioner (34 days from NOA2).

18 Sep 2015: Medicals complete

21 Sep 2015: Packet 3 complete, my boss puts a temporary moratorium on all time off due to work emergency :clock:

02 Oct 2015: Work emergency clears up, interview scheduled (soonest available was 5 business days away--Columbus Day was in there)

13 Oct 2015: Interview

13 Oct 2015: VISA APPROVED  (236 days from NOA1)

19 Oct 2015: Visa-in-hand

24 Oct 2015: POE !

15 Dec 2015: Fiance's mother's B-2 visa interview: APPROVED! So happy she will be at the wedding!

I checked 500 cases around my case number but only one was I-751 and that was rejected. I have seen someone in July thread who got GC already tho which was shockingly fast but rather exception than rule of course.

You can try to go for an info pass appointment and ask for a i551 stamp. Not guaranteed, though

How do I make an info pass appointment? I am traveling on December 21st, 2018, I send in my package 09/11/2018 and my green card expires 11/29/2018.

This is my one trip a year to see my parents in the Netherlands and we are going there for Christmas and New Years. What would happen if I go and then come in with my passport?

You have plenty of time. I'm traveling in three weeks and staying in Vietnam pass my expiration. My checks are only cashed today. I'm really nervous but I'll have my husband mail it to Vietnam if it doesn't arrive in time.
