Hey guys! Packet was delivered to CSC Sep 4 but even after 2 weeks the check hasn't been cashed yet. Something tells me this is going to be a long process... we might end up becoming citizens before getting the 10-year GC hehe.

My packet was not as thick as I see here. I only sent utility bills and bank statements one per quarter, I'm hoping the fact we have cars listed to both our names, mortgage, car loan and joint tax returns is enough proof we actually ARE together...among other things of course.

Good luck to everyone!!!

Mine was received on the 5th September CSC, no info yet.

Mine was received on the 5th September CSC, no info yet.

It’s going to be a month from receipt, I reckon, for CSC to get around to issuing NOA1s. That would be consistent with some August filer’s experiences. I’m in the same same boat for me. Check not cashed, no e-Notification. All I have is proof that they received the packet.

Once I file N-400 this time next year, I will be so happy to never have to deal with USCIS ever again!

Lol it's possible if you're at CSC.

I spoke to a tier 2 officer not long ago for a client.  We had a discussion about the process and the issues many filers were facing--having a pending I-751 and being up for citizenship.

Interestingly enough the officer made a valid point about sending the N400 application with the pending I-751.  He said that you really should wait to file one until the other is adjudicated.  This is because they're filed in different offices and each office will make a request for the hard filer, so a lot of time is spent travelling between one office and the next.  Things could go missing and it wastes a lot of time with a file potentially travelling half way across the US.

So in the end it's best to wait until everything is sorted and let it run its course--you'll have a 10 year green card at the end of the I-751 process and you don't necessarily have to apply for citizenship immediately.

The advice I received - from a friend that had a long-pending I-751 last year and is now a US citizen - was to file N400 when the date came round. The cases can be adjudicated concurrently and if it puts a “hurry-up” on RoC, then I am all for it. He was a CSC filer for I-751.

For my circumstances, I do not believe it would cause harm to do it. I’m going to do it unless the rules change to explicitly proscribe it. I am stuck in the 21 month mire that is CSC so I’m willing to roll the dice.

I'm going to put our petition in the mail soon (tomorrow I hope, we are going on a little mini vacation this weekend and I do NOT want to be stressing about this). But I am having extreme anxiety that I'm not doing something right/enough. Talk me down?

Ok we live in Virginia, which means that as of like last week we send to TSC, right? Everything from family/friends/landlord is addressed (in the business letter format) to the Vermont center. They understand paperwork shuffle, right? Should I change my cover letter to Texas? Does this even matter?

Beyond that, I have:

  • Petition (and a required supplement)
  • Copy of green card
  • Addendum to the lease adding Husband to it; affidavit from landlord confirming our cohabitation/ co-payment etc
  • Tax transcripts 2015-2017 (we married right before the end of the year 2015, have not filed for 2018 yet obviously)
  • Bank statements Sept 2016-Sep 2018 (Joint, with all paychecks deposited to and all expenses paid from it. A lot of activity, plus a personal loan and auto loan, also joint. We shared money but at a different bank and a now-closed account before Sept 2016. So, first ~9 months of marriage not accounted for)
  • 401(k) beneficiary form (me to husband)
  • Life insurance beneficiary form
  • Renters insurance policy and renewals 2016-2018
  • Car insurance (August 2018-- we didn't own a car until last month)
  • Should I include a copy of the registration?
  • Medical/dental insurance and claims 2016-now
  • Two personal affidavits (from my cousin and good friend)
  • Airline reservations for three trips
  • Photographs from wedding and those trips/ random photos (12 total)
  • Should I include cell phone bills?

I'm also somehow super freaked out that I'm going to forget to sign somewhere or something dumb like that.

Answers/insight? Valium?

Marriage/ AOS Timeline:

23 Dec 2015: Legal marriage

23 Jan 2016: Wedding!

23 Jan 2016: "Blizzard of the Century", wedding canceled/rescheduled (thank goodness we were legally married first or we'd have had a big problem!) :sleepy:

24 Jan 2016: Small "civil ceremony" with friends and family who were snowed in with us. December was a bit of a secret and people had traveled internationally and knew we *had* to get married that weekend, and our December legal marriage was nothing but signing a piece of paper at our priest's kitchen table, without any sort of vows etc so this was actually a very special (if not legally significant) day. (L)

16 Apr 2016: Filed for AOS and EAD/AP (We delayed a bit-- no big rush, enjoying the USCIS break)

23 Apr 2016: Wedding! Finally! :luv:

27 Apr 2016: Electronic NOA1 for all 3 :dancing:
29 Apr 2016: NOA1 Hardcopy for all 3
29 Jul 2016: Online service request for late EAD (Day 104)
29 Jul 2016: EAD/AP Approved ~3 hours after online service request
04 Aug 2016: RFE for Green Card (requested medicals/ vaccination record. They already have it). :ranting:
05 Aug 2016: EAD/AP Combo Card arrived! (Day 111)
08 Aug 2016: Congressional constituent request to get guidance on the RFE. Hoping they see they have the form and approve!

K-1 Visa Timeline:

PLEASE NOTE. This timeline was during the period of time when TSC was working on I-129fs and had a huge backlog. The average processing time was 210+ days. This is in no way predictive of your own timeline if you filed during or after April 2015, unless CSC develops a backlog. A backlog is anything above the 5-month goal time listed on USCIS's site

14 Feb 2015: Mailed I-129f to Dallas Lockbox. (L) (Most expensive Valentine's card I've ever sent!)

17 Feb 2015: NOA1 "Received Date"
19 Feb 2015: NOA1 Notice Date
08 Aug 2015: NOA2 email! :luv: (173 days from NOA1)

17 Aug 2015: Sent to NVC

?? Aug 2015: Arrived at NVC

25 Aug 2015: NVC Case # Assigned

31 Aug 2015: Left NVC for Consulate in San Jose

09 Sep 2015: Consulate received :dancing: (32 days from NOA2)

11 Sep 2015: Packet 3 emailed from embassy to me, the petitioner (34 days from NOA2).

18 Sep 2015: Medicals complete

21 Sep 2015: Packet 3 complete, my boss puts a temporary moratorium on all time off due to work emergency :clock:

02 Oct 2015: Work emergency clears up, interview scheduled (soonest available was 5 business days away--Columbus Day was in there)

13 Oct 2015: Interview

13 Oct 2015: VISA APPROVED  (236 days from NOA1)

19 Oct 2015: Visa-in-hand

24 Oct 2015: POE !

15 Dec 2015: Fiance's mother's B-2 visa interview: APPROVED! So happy she will be at the wedding!

Hi, I'm from Virginia too and submitted my documents to Texas Service Center..!!

Your documents looks good..

regarding addressing to changing address on cover letter i would say change on the cover letter as I did too .. but my affidavits from friends/family remained the same addressing to Vermont Service (as those wer taken weeks before)

Car registration if you both have a joint name its better to include..

Phone bills if you both have same line or it shows same address then i would suggest adding those too.. As many evidences you send the better..

Good luck :)

Sorry....

And credit cards (yay, that's new!) are ONLY if you send to the Lockbox, but we can FedEx/whatever right to the service center, yes? Any idea which one gets you NOA1 or whatever we're calling it faster?

Apropos of nothing: how do people feel about travelling abroad on the I-797 letter? I know it’s legal and proper but my concern is poorly-informed checkin staff denying boarding or, worse, I-751 being denies while abroad.

Thoughts?

Hi, I'm from Virginia too and submitted my documents to Texas Service Center..!!

Your documents looks good..

regarding addressing to changing address on cover letter i would say change on the cover letter as I did too .. but my affidavits from friends/family remained the same addressing to Vermont Service (as those wer taken weeks before)

Car registration if you both have a joint name its better to include..

Phone bills if you both have same line or it shows same address then i would suggest adding those too.. As many evidences you send the better..

Good luck :)

Thanks! So it's weird. Our old mobile company (Verizon) at one point had the bill with two phone numbers, and each of our names next to the numbers, on the same bill. At some point they put both lines in my name. Our new carrier (~1 year) I believe shows us split. It is just SO much paper I can't imagine they'd want to deal with all of it. Like the cell phone bills are twice as thick as all the bank statements 😕

Oh also, staples. I have heard they hate them but HOW are you supposed to keep this all organized?

Finally! :luv:

We have a trip planned and the green card will expire while we're abroad. I felt fine about it when we planned it but I'm pretty much at a dead panic now and will probably cancel the trip. It doesn't help that we went there (Puerto Vallarta, Mexico) at the same time last year (last week Oct/first week Nov, yes we aren't filing the first possible second, and yes I feel guilty and stupid about it) and had some pretty stressful confusion with the ticket agent understanding the expired K1 visa and the valid green card. I don't want to imagine dealing with an expired visa and expired green card and some letter they may have never seen. MAYBE getting a 551 stamp would help ease this thought but I kind of doubt it. See also: I really am pretty much in a panic over this whole thing this time.

You may add your old phone bill that shows both your names with numbers. and for the new carrier as long as both your bills show same address you may include them as well..

yes me too had hard time organizing papers, I did use fastener to bundle all the papers together..

Sorry....

And credit cards (yay, that's new!) are ONLY if you send to the Lockbox, but we can FedEx/whatever right to the service center, yes? Any idea which one gets you NOA1 or whatever we're calling it faster?

yes credit card payments for Lockbox services.. I used USPS and it was delivered the next working day (sent package on Saturday and it was received Monday).

some members got notification in about a weeks time when sent to Texas Service.. So guess it is the faster one compared to the other service center..
