I-751 Filers (September 2018)

Hi All,

Another September 2018 filer here.  My application was submitted to the Vermont center and everything was rather quick (did my biometrics done in early October).  How many of us are getting ready for N-400 in a few months?  I have a question about filing for N-400 while I-751 is pending:

Will filing for N-400 while my I-751 is pending delay/extend the I-751 timeline or they will be adjudicated separately without one application affecting the processing time of the other?

I see some posts mentioning that their I-751s went OVER the normal processing time because they applied for N-400 and were given I-751/N-400 combo interviews.  And some do not seem to think that is the case.  With the REAL ID Act kicking in on 10/01/2020 and my state's DMV policy, I would feel much safer waiting for my 10 year GC before applying for N-400.  I don't want to end up in a position where I file for N-400 in September, my I-751 timeline gets pushed back, have my combo interview scheduled after the REAL ID Act gets enacted, and be denied access to a federal facility when I go in for my combo interview because I do not have an acceptable form of ID.  My passport can only be renewed with a valid GC or I-551, FYI. And without a valid passport, I cannot get I-551 stamp.  A real catch-22.

I can just hold on to my N-400 until my I-751 gets adjudicated, of course, but have we all not waited enough with USCIS business?  A small part of me says "just get it over with!"

Thank you!

I am applying for N400 next month. I know a lot of people who actually had combo for I-751/N400 and it did speed things up rather than slow down. Obviously can’t count on that that will be the case for me. But I am not waiting and just going to go with N400.

I also heard that the N400 combo is being worked on faster, because it’s being sent to NOC (or so it was called?). Crossing my fingers for you!!
