Hi, my current Uscis status are AP approved 08/31 and EAD 08/30 “name was updated” if they are on a combo card , I’m assuming I’ll have to wait until the EAD is approved to travel outside of the USA . Not that I’m planning on going anywhere anytime soon . But my name was correct on all the forms so I’m confused to the name was updated . Any advise is great

*I haven't been around status for EAD but as I assume it is same as other cases I'm giving my input.

There are many case updates that turn to approved the next day after name was updated. This doesn't have to be about you updating or correcting your name, but a correction in their own records (In my case it went to name was updated - and I knew I got the approval because I saw many -MANY- cases that got approved the next day, and mine too,  the next day it turned to an approval). In my case the correction was (we realized when we got the approval notice); In my NOA1 they only put my first name, however my country doesn't really have a middle name so my middle name also is in my passport, So by noa2 they corrected my name to my full name including middle name without me making any corrections.

So if your AP was approved and the other got a name was updated the day before I would say both is most likely got approved. :)
