I haven't applied for AP with my marriage based AOS. Anything to keep in mind if I do it now?

I decided not to submit my AP forms as part of my Green Card application, because I didn't expect to need to travel out of the US in the next year. I figured that, if an emergency happened and I needed to go, I could book an InfoPass and get it real quick. 

 

I'm getting the sense it's not "real quick". Is it worthwhile submitting the AP documentation now? Or will it take a few months just to get attached to my application, and then another 4-8 months to get approved? By then, I'd expect to have an interview scheduled... 

 

I also applied to expedite my EAD so I can keep my job when my current status expires. If I get, hopefully, approved, I'll get an EAD card. If the AP gets approved six months after that, will I get a new combo card? Is this a big deal for anything, or just a formality?

I think that applying for AP now will make it a separate entity.  It will take about 3-5 months, and you will have to pay.  Had you sent it with your AOS, it would have been free.  Is this correct @geowrian ?

The basis you are applying on has not changed so no need to pay, as an aside not applying when it is very little extra work compared to the alternatives makes little sense.

No need to pay..send a copy of the NOA1 in lieu of payment. But yes, it will be processed separately and likely take ~4-6 months.

Yeah I know. I'm not even sure I care to have it, I have zero plans to possibly leave the US in the near future. Might as well have applied then and there, but the thought of filling out more forms was more annoying than not having authorization to travel--at the time anyway...

many times. I encourage others to apply for it even if you think you won’t need it. You just never know. There’s no cost and so easy to do. 

You can send the form in now with a copy of your AOS NOA-1 if you want.

Yeah, might as well send the form now.

Question for you - I already got my I-693 Medical completed as well.  Probably should've waited, but here we are.  Since I'll be sending I-131, should I also send the I-693?  I understand that I may need to get the medical re-done, but no harm in sending this one, right?

Another question on I-131: if I have no actual planned travel dates, do I just make one up?  I remember when I asked a lawyer I consulted about this, she said to "just say you're planning to go home for Christmas".  I have no actual desire to go to Canada for Christmas, so can I just put a date of intended departure of 2/1/2019 for 10 days, and say I want to go visit family in Canada and possibly again at a later date?  

 

This whole thing just kind of seems dishonest, I wish there were away to just get authorization to leave the country as a "just in case" rather than this weird "I suppose I may go here in February".  Now I remember why I looked at this form and figured, nah.

I just put "As-needed" and "TBD". Others used "Unknown" for the date. The reason and date doesn't really matter for AP due to a pending I-485.

Yes as the others stated. You do not need to list dates.

Thanks! If I'm going to be sending this, should I just send my already-completed medical (I-693)? Since I for some reason already have it? Or is it better to bring those things to the interview? 

 

I guess the reason I'm asking really is--if my interview date is more than 12 months after the date of my medical, is there a chance that they won't ask me for a new one if I already submitted it, or will I have to get a new one either way?

if your medical is about to expire ( 12 months from the day you completed it) then send it in. Your medical will be valid for another 12 months from the day it is received by uscis. So if one month before it expires you still have no interview date or interview is after the expiry of the medical then send in.

Basically medical is valid for one year from the date it is received by the USCIS as long as it is received by USCIS less than 12 months since it was done.
