Mutilple police certificates required ?

Hello,

My wife and I are currently going through the NVC process. I have a question concerning the NVC's criteria for submitting police certificates. My wife is Nicaraguan; she was born and raised, and has lived here for most of her life. That said, we are obviously going to submit her police certificate from Nicaragua. However, my wife did a part of her medical residency in Mexico over six years ago, which lasted over a year. According the the NVC's web page, under police certificates, one of the criteria requiring a police certificate is "IF YOU have ever lived in another country for 12 months or more AND you were 16 years or older at the time you lived there, THEN submit a police certificate from the country you used to live."

Does this mean she has to, in addition to a police certificate from Nicaragua, have to obtain a police certificate from Mexico? It seems virtually impossible to do so. Furthermore, why 12 months or more, what if a person was in a country for 11 months, would that person then be exempt from getting a police certificate? It's very confounding.

Please, could somebody clarify if she truly needs an additional police certificate from Mexico, and if so, how can that be obtained? Again, this was over 6 years ago, as a medical resident.

Thanks

She lived there over a year.  Why she lived there is irrelevant.

The requirements state EXACTLY what you need.

Do that.

As far as how? Ask in the Mexico subforum. Someone there will likely be able to point her in the right direction.

Here is a thread which might be helpful........

and 11 months is less than a year........that is a literal requirement.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..
