Half ranting half asking! Should I get a lawyer involved?

I'm now having nightmares about never getting my travel doc and missing both my best friends and brothers weddings in early Oct and Nov. I know I have time but so far everything has worked at snail pace with USCIS. My husband wants to get a lawyer involved. Is there any point?! I've just heard so many times their input doesn't help. Our congressman says he can't do anything for us because there's no major emergency to travel. I'm just so angry because I did everything right, the only reason why I don't have AP document is because of a mistake made by USCIS.

Here's my backstory: My AP was approved in March but my EAD wasn't approved until May. I expected to receive a combo card for work and travel but I received employment authorisation card with "Not Valid For AP" printed on it. Calling USCIS they said I should have gotten a travel doc within 30 days of AP approval but there records show it was never sent. Put in an inquiry, the 30 days passed last week, I got speaking to Tier 2 and they said they have contacted my office and said I should have a reply within 2 weeks... it's been 1 week, I'm not feeling confidant. Every time I make an inquiry they have never replied in the time they say they will!!

I am so sorry for how this became a nightmare...

But in my most honest opinion involving a lawyer won't do anything. As in the end they cannot do anything but calling them like you do, and all your papers are already done. All it seems you can do is to be on top of it and call and call again for tier2s.

This is my gut feeling too.. I'm going to keep on top of it as best I can. Thanks @Naes I really appreciate your reply!

Had the interview this morning and we were approved! So happy this is finally over. The officer was extremely friendly and overall a nice person. She asked if I hired a lawyer to fill out my paperwork and I told her I did everything on my own and she said she figured because I made a common mistake on form I-485 but was easily fixed. When I told her lawyers charge way too much she said that they usually make the same mistake I did if not more mistakes and in her opinion, aren't worth it.

Anyway she just confirmed what was on form I-485, asked when we got married, when I visited my wife the first time and how many times I visited. We showed her a lot of pictures and she said she's been doing this job for a long time and she knows what she's looking for.

Told us that we will get our greencard usually within two weeks.

Hi guys,

Just wanted to let you know I had my green card interview today (morning) in Philadelphia (filed September 12th 2018).

It was pretty quick, maybe 20-30 minutes. The officer was pretty stern, but he has to be. He was nice tho. He asked my husband a few questions (how did you meet, what are her parents name, where do they live etc) and then went over the yes/no questions with me. After that he asked me if I had any new documentation I wanted to add to the file, so I gave him all the shared bills, cc's etc.

Afterwards he told us he usually makes a decision in 4-6 weeks, so I was a little disappointed that we didn't get a recommendation for approval or anything and we did not know if everything was in place. He also explained what happens when your case get's approved, denied or RFE'd.

When I checked the case tracker at the end of today the status changed to 'new card is being produced' 😊

Also, for everyone who is worried about the medical. My medical expired in April this year, but I filed within 1 year after medical. The officer did not even ask for it, nor did he ask for any of my husbands documents (birth certificate, passport) He just asked for our DL's.

I did print the page from the I-693 instructions where it says you don't need a new medical if you filed within 1 year, just in case, and of course I brought all my husbands documents.

We received my husband's green card on Friday! Finally done with USCIS for almost two years now. :)

July 2: Interview, not immediately approved as we were told they wanted to review my husband's military records again (he only did the mandatory service for Turkey)

July 5: Case update to card in production

July 12: Card received in mailbox
