Does USCIS automatically texts you when they receive the application or do you need to explicitly authorize them to do so?

You need to send a G-1145 with the applications to get text or email notice for the acceptance.

Well I read about a girl who was postponing her interview date so that it was over two years haha

There wouldn’t be a need to and it probably wouldn’t work. You will just need to wait till the hard copy.
