Just return to SS to get the name changed. Fill out everything concerning the AOS, double check and then send it in. Be sure to complete I-485, I-765 and the I-131 which if you do now will cost less.

Here is the letter that I used with a checklist. Be sure to look over the guide here on VJ for any other tidbits as it's been awhile since I did mine and things may have change so "don't rely on one resource".

RE:     I-485, Application to Adjust Status (K1 visa)

Applicant: Last name, First Name Middle Name

A-205-XXX-XXX

Gentleman/Madam:

Attached is my I-485 Application to Adjust Status from a K1 fiancée visa. (Include the following if you are filing AOS for any K2’s) Included in this mailing are I-485 application packets for my children, First Middle and Last name (list all children who you will be adjusting their status with this packet).

Included in the documentation are:

  1. Check for $X,XXX (include the appropriate amount based on your application)
  2. I-693 medical exam report in sealed envelope
  3. Passport-style photos for my husband and I
  4. I-485, Petition
  5. G-325, Biographic Information, forms for myself and my two children
  6. Copy of the I-797 Approval Notice of Action for my I-129F petition
  7. Copies of my K1 visa, I-94 and Philippines passport data page
  8. Copies of both of our birth certificates
  9. Copy of our Certificate of Marriage
  10. Copy of my husband’s Dissolution Decree from a prior marriage(s)
  11. Copy of the death certificate from other former wife of my husband (only needed if a prior marriage ended in the death of a spouse)
  12. Copies of my Certificate of Finality and Decision to terminate my former marriage
  13. My husband’s I-864, employer letter, 2013, 2012 and 2011 tax returns, W-2 forms, SS form (this is schedule of payments from social security if your husband is receiving SS benefits) and pay stubs
  14. I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, with supporting documents
  15. I-131, Application for travel Document with supporting documents

Thank you for your kind attention to this application.

Respectfully,

XXXXX XXXXX XXXX

Thanks i will definitely do that.

what does return to SS mean? Do you mean Social Security Office?

Also, is it necessary to get your name changed?

Because if I get my name changed then my passport will have a different name and that will cause a problem.

SS - Social Security

It's not necessary but it's better to begin changing over your information to the new name. SSN does not effect the passport. Eventually you will change your passport. Better to start changing documents now then later.

Hello all,

We have received our case number from NVC and that was done on October 3.

I have been checking the tracker and it still says at NVC. is this normal?

Yes. It's been talked about throughout this thread, even as late as today (see the previous tab and scroll have way down) that when you receive a case number your file will probably not leave NVC until the batch is ready to be sent. Normal deliver is every other week. This is the week for the batch to go out so it could be tomorrow or Wednesday. Next batch after that will be around the 10/31.

And don't spam me for being rude when I point out this question has been answered by me and others.

For all things dealing with the US Embassy in Canada head on over to the sub-forum for Canada where they will answer your questions for the processing of your visa from their personal experience. Link:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/93-canada/

Get the Canadian K1 P3 letter at http://photos.state.gov/libraries/canada/303578/montreal/Packet3-K1-MTL.pdf as this is your bible needed to complete and receive your visa. The required documents are included and use the P3 as a check list. Once you have completed or gathered the required documents you'll be ready for your interview. If it is not on the Embassy letter, it probably is not needed.

Last but not least, READ the pages on the US Embassy website for you country so that you are up to speed.

http://canada.usembassy.gov/

https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-ca/iv

You can't hurry it along at all. You have to wait for P3 which takes 2-4 weeks from Ready. Comply with what they ask for in P3 (the actually one they send you) by sending them a copy of the signed P3 checklist, your DS-160 confirmation and your Passport Bio. Then they send you P4. Then they tell you to register to schedule and you'll wait some more for interviews to open up, which only happens once a month during the last week of the month for two months ahead UNLESS you are lucky and you scoop up a cancellation. Get your medical appointment first so you can schedule the interview shortly afterwards.

So we can schedule the interview as soon as they send us packet 4? or can we do it before?

I'm not sure that's why I gave you the links so you could get your questions answered. Each Embassy is different.

Just as you said complete a new DS-160 or advise the CO at the interview of the mistake. Either way bring the confirmation page that most like reflects your answers. No new interview needs to be scheduled.

Hey Greenbaum, thanks for your reply.

I called CASV (the place that handles the biometrics and stuff here) twice today and asked if I could update the DS-160 number in case I had to fill in another one and both ladies told me that for me to do that, that I would have to cancel my appointment and reschedule. And since my interview is on the 6th and there are no more appointments available and since my fiance already booked her ticket here. That wont be an option lol

So I asked them if I could simply just just fill out a new ds-160 and take it with me and inform them I made a mistake and present the correct one. They both told me that I can BUT that it's not guaranteed. But they both sounded like they were not from Brazil so maybe they aren't sure about that option? Bc I have heard of people doing that like you mentioned and like ive read around the internet.

That's pretty much what I said you could do. So now you have the choose what's comfortable for you. I just give the answer and most the time I've heard before.

Hi, I got my case number, can I go ahead to schedule an interview appointment?

Moreover, which come first? The D160 or the interview appointment.

If it's the D160, Do I need that to schedule the interview?

I'm from Nigeria

You should do your medicals first then get your police report, pay your visa fee that's when you can fill the DS160 form then schedule your interview and pls start doing all that now before nvc sends your case to the embassy so the process will be faster to get your visa.

FYI I'm from Nigeria too.
