How do you book your interview while nvc says petition is in transit? I perhaps wrongly assumed that you could only do so after receiving a letter from the embassy or something.

You only need your nvc number and ds 160 reference number to book it. Obviously lots of people wait for a letter and instructions but having monitored the forum for months I saw Lots of people book when in transit. I’m only confident doing it because the interview is  over 5 weeks away so I’m sure they’ll have my file and medical info by then. My medical is in two weeks. Hope that helps!

Hi! Yes it does help! Thank you. Just out of curiosity, you mentioned booking it with NVC number and DS160 number (I'm around 70% done with that so far). Out of curiosity, is that through a phone call to the NVC, to the embassy? Or through a particular website link?

Naturally, there are differences when it comes to different embassies, I know that. So don't worry if my mileage would vary very much, it's just to make a better, more informed decision.

Not entirely true, it doesn't always allow you to book when in transit, I have been trying and cannot yet, it states it 'is not ready' but some people seem to be able to. Just one of those things I guess. But congrats!

Out of curiosity, when did you complete your DS-160? Thanks

I said "lots of people" not all people :) so both cases are true. Some can and some can't. I finished it last night, and booked it after that.

For london we have to use the US Embassy link, you would have to check for your country specific one I guess.

What each embassy needs before you can book your interview can vary quite a lot so do check it out.

Greenbaum's Tips: If you select your flag in your profile from the left column you'll land on your country's profile page. Here there are man tools from which you can select that will answer many of your questions.

Select Consulate information to get an idea of what is required for your Embassy interview.

Select Consulate Reviews to learn about the experiences of others who had their interview at your Embassy.

Select Visa Timelines to follow others from your country who also are applying. A good way to establish a "buddy system" to help with questions.

Select K-1 Timelines when you scroll down about 50% of the page and on the left side, you will see this option. This will show you the progress of 12 other timelines that are close to you from your country. If you scroll down a little further you will see a "spreadsheet" showing valuable information. Select to follow those 12 and get updates whenever their files are updated. Gives you a good idea where you are in comparison to others.

Select Immigration Timelines at the top from the blue ribbon that stretches across the page. Here you can follow, much like the K-1 timeline tip I gave above but now you are looking at those from other countries that are close to your timeline.

Many of our answers are predicated on the information you supply in your profile. When we look at the left column and can't determine your timeline or your Embassy it's hard for us to give you a factual answer. If you look at the profile of others here, they have a flag for their country, so it makes it easy for us to reply as we can quickly determine your Embassy. Our answers will sometimes be tailored to a specific Embassy hence the reason for you to complete your profile.

So, if you could help yourself out and complete your profile that sure would help us out when we want to reply to your question with factual information.

Go to the top right of this page select your name (it's on the upper right-hand corner)>my profile>[below your picture on the right column] edit my profile. Scroll to the bottom and fill in "Immigration Info". There now we can better serve you.

Thanks

Just a clarification. My husband is filing the petition exclusively to me. Is this correct? or does he need to put "0"

Why is he completing the I-864 when in fact he only needs to complete the I-134 form? Just curious. :D

@Greenbaum Thank you for providing the info.

I couldn’t understand the shipper’s reference entry to be done on the DHL website , could you please tell how to fill in that?

Expand

The shipper reference is the date you think it left or the date you know your packaged left NVC to your Embassy. There is a lot that goes into figuring out if that is your package because there are no names attached. So seeing a package going to Egypt and that was your date and that is your Embassy one could conclude this might be your case. There is nothing more or less than what I have stated. Very crude but still something to have fun with.
