Was the invoice number we received the number we need to pay a fee of some sort? I am so wildly confused. We were approved sept 14, and called two weeks later to get our case number and they gave us an invoice number as well. Was I suppose to pay something before they sent it out?! Bleh

You pay your interview fee and medical but the invoice number is used only once to register and sign onto scheduling your interview at the designated portal that your Embassy uses. After that, never to be used. No payment need for the case to be sent from NVC to your Embassy.

For all things dealing with the US Embassy in Canada head on over to the subforum for Canada where they will answer your questions for the processing of your visa from their personal experience. Link:

Get the Canadian K1 P3 letter at http://photos.state.gov/libraries/canada/303578/montreal/Packet3-K1-MTL.pdf as this is your bible needed to complete and receive your visa. The required documents are included and use the P3 as a check list. Once you have completed or gathered the required documents you'll be ready for your interview. If it is not on the Embassy letter, it probably is not needed.

Last but not least, READ the pages on the US Embassy website for you country so that you are up to speed.

You can't hurry it along at all. You have to wait for P3 which takes 2-4 weeks from Ready. Comply with what they ask for in P3 (the actually one they send you) by sending them a copy of the signed P3 checklist, your DS160 confirmation and your Passport Bio. Then they send you P4. Then they tell you to register to schedule and you'll wait some more for interviews to open up, which only happens once a month during the last week of the month for two months ahead UNLESS you are lucky and you scoop up a cancellation. Get your medical appointment first so you can schedule the interview shortly afterwards.

The research is for your benefit so that you understand the process and that you anticipated the timeline that this process would take and if you moved forward with submitting a 129f then I can only conclude that you know what your "risks" are.

Background checks.

As part of its benefits adjudication process and as required by law, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) conducts background checks on petitioners and applicants who seek certain immigration benefits. These background checks consist of four separate checks against systems within Department of Justice (DOJ), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). In order to facilitate the collection and transmission of information necessary to complete background check processes, USCIS maintains five information technology electronic systems: the Fingerprint Masthead Notification System (FMNS), the Customer Identity Capture System (CICS), the FD-258 Tracking System - Mainframe (FD-258 MF), the Benefits Biometrics Support System (BBSS), and the Interagency Border Inspection System (IBIS) Manifest. USCIS is conducting this privacy impact assessment (PIA) because FMNS, CICS, FD-258 MF, BBSS, and IBIS Manifest collect, use, and share personally identifiable information (PII). This PIA replaces the previously published USCIS PIA for the "Background Check Service (BCS)" which describes planned background check-related systems that were never implemented. Upon publication of this PIA, the BCS PIA will be retired.

Additional screening and background checks based on country of birth, citizenship, or residency in the “State Sponsors of Terrorism” (T-7) list: Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Libya, North Korea, Sudan, Syria; or from the “List of 26”: Afghanistan, Bahrain, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, UAE, Yemen. This is a mandatory stop list and allegedly takes 2 to 4 days, thanks in part to the partially rolled out PATRIOT (Pre-Adjudicated Threat Recognition and Intelligence Operations Team) system managed by ICE, but often take 3 to 6 weeks and if there is a hit who knows how long.

Security Advisory Opinion (SAO) or Washington Special Clearance,[1] commonly called security clearance, administrative clearance, or administrative processing,[2] is a process the United States Department of State and the diplomatic missions of the United States use in deciding to grant or deny a United States visa to certain visa applicants. The process involves sending a request from the visa issuing post to the Department of State's headquarters in Washington, D.C., to investigate an individual's case for possible espionage, terrorism, and illegal export of technology out of the United States.

You might be the boogy man. So we are checking and besides USCIS has to determine your costume that you will be in for Halloween so they can keep and eye on you.  And at Xmas they will check to see if you have been naughty or nice 3 times. Man, my tax payer money is going along wayyyyyy. Love it!! :jest:

Thank you so much for your response. I guess we just didn’t get lucky and will have to wait another two weeks 😩

Guys is there anyone who got the case number around 27th or later and their case status was changed to "in transit" today? Or we are the only ones who was left alone at nvc?

You weren’t left alone at NVC we were too and we got our case number two weeks from approval (so on the 27th.)

I received my case number in the evening of the 27th.  My case status today was changed to In Transit.  Not sure why yours did not go out today as it would seem would be enough time to get the paperwork together. Sorry to hear that yours is still at NVC:(

All depends on case workers ability to do there job in a timely matter. So work faster then others and push things thru. While others look at it as a pay check and do what they have to too keep there job.

Email NVC for a copy. E-mail: NVCInquiry@state.gov    I highly recommend you email NVC for the case #, even if you call and get it, this will give you a correspondence from NVC with the case # for future reference.  The email request for your MNL # is also a great way to track when your file is forwarded to your Embassy as NVC will not reply to the email until that time.

REQUIRED SECURITY INFORMATION:

You are required to provide the following security information with each inquiry to receive a case specific response:

* NVC Case Number or USCIS Receipt Number (Place in the subject line of the e-mail).

* Petitioner's name and date of birth.

( NOTE: If the visa petition is employment-based, include the employer's company/organization name instead of the petitioner's name and date of birth. )

* Principal Applicant's name and date of birth.

--- Use this site to check when your file ships from NVC to your Embassy:  State Dept. visa tracking:  https://ceac.state.g...ker/Status.aspx?

I did get a case number from them in an email when it was first assigned so i am good there at least. What's an MLN # and what can I do with it?

For starters u jump the gun big time.

Transit can take any where from 1 to 3 weeks. And embassy can take 1 to 3 months doing there checks.

Since u can't attend medical or interview (in most countries) with out nvc hard copy. Its technically a guessing game. A lot of people get lucky cus there medical and interview are at least a month from the time they receive nvc #.

Seem ur country has a fast lane and things move much quicker..

I just want to be sure we get the medical done before the interview of course and  not have to reschedule. I seen some people timelines for my country with 10 days to the interview once the embassy received it but it varies by case. I was under the impression it only takes a few days to change to ready for the electronic files and the physical ones arrive after?

You called them?

Yes I did, the lady told me it still at NVC for additional check up, but she don't knows when it will be in transit.

I also asked them when it would go out from NVC when I received my number and basically got the standard answer that they don't know when it will be sent.   Hopefully you will make it in the next batch.
