USTraveldocs.com and various embassy websites all refer to it as the "visa application fee" or MRV fee, and the visa application is the DS-160. So, DS-160 and visa application may be used interchangeably to come up with either DS-160 fee, visa application fee, or MRV fee. 😄

In my years of helping individual's to gain their visa's I have never heard the MRV fee being referred to as the DS-160 fee. But after doing some more research I have found that most hear on VJ do not refer to as a DS-160 fee.

Now, when I go here it list that there is such a fee and they refer to as the DS-160 fee: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/family-immigration/nonimmigrant-visa-for-a-fiance-k-1.html#10

Fees

Fees are charged for the following services:

  • Filing an Alien Fiancé(e) Petition, Form I-129F
  • Nonimmigrant visa application processing fee, Form DS-160 (required for each K visa applicant)
  • Medical examination (required for each K visa applicant; costs vary from post to post)
  • Other costs may include translation and photocopying charges, fees for getting the documents required for the visa application (such as passport, police certificates, birth certificates, etc.), and travel expenses to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate for an interview. Costs vary from country to country and case to case.
  • Filing Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status

For current fees for Department of State, see Fees for Visa Services. For current fees for USCIS, see Check Filing Fees on the USCIS website

At best this is confusing people, or maybe just me. I have always heard it referred to as what you describe in your retort as the MRV fee or interview application fee. Thanks for the help on this issue.

So the only "fee" whether it be called Embassy interview fee or ds160 visa fee or what-have-you is paid at the time of filling out the DS 160 online correct???

I am confused too now and I thought that is one part i actually understood 🙀

There will be no surprise "you owe us $260 sir" at the time of the interview?

There is no fee for ds 160. Only fees are for medical and interview.

Medical is 300 plus and vaccinations needed.

interview is 265 which is actually the cost of the k1 visa

Believe u pay visa fee when u set up ur appointment or at embassy. Not sure as some embassies do things differently. U should recieve something in the mail detailing the process u need to follow.

Not really as you can submit as many as you like. However because you pay money for the interview appointment ( in reality it’s a visa services fee) and you connect your ds-160 number with the appointment then the ds 160 becomes valid.

no you wont pay the money twice. It is a once paid fee for the visa.

if one needed to pay for ds-160 I should have paid 10000s of dollars...

On another note, to main audience: This discussion is stupid seriously I just read 2 pages of unnecessary discussion.

No, you pay for the interview when you’re scheduling the interview (this timing may depend on the embassy).

it is after you submit the ds-160 but it is not on the same site as ds-160. Instructions will take you to it. Just wait for embassy to send you if you’re not sure.
