In case you miss the flight to US due to long wait time for preclearance,  just go to the airline desk in the terminal, and show them your ticket, they will arrange a next available flight for you and it is free. If the next flight is in the next morning, they may offer you a coupon for a one night hotel stay.

This is a common policy for most of the airlines, but it is maybe vary between airlines. Just another info so you can have a back up plan.

Not sure about that..

Someone I know missed DUB-WAS flight; check-in agent said it was the pax fault, and thus no coupon for food/hotel stay, etc. Booked on Aer Lingus 24 hours later, and stayed at the airport, bought own food at the airport.

I think (unless the original flight was delayed) it’s at the airline’s discretion even if it’s all on one ticket and if the airline thinks you didn’t leave enough time, especially if it’s a low cost airline, they’ll decline to help. In the old days of travel agents, there was always an eye to check times. Some airlines seem to disallow short layovers when booking online, but others don’t seem to have this type of check - I’ve been shown options of things like 25-40 minute layovers at very large airports like Atlanta, which is just crazy (sometimes you can’t even deplane in that time), but someone who doesn’t know those airports might think because the internet booking system gave them that option it’s ok.

Can I ask how this went in the end? I am hoping to immigrate with an IR1 visa via Dublin in a few months but I was unsure if I could actually immigrate with my visa packet check etc this way or would have to find an alternative route with immigration control on US arrival. Thanks in advance

Well.. the flight to Dublin was delayed so we got there pretty late. I was chosen for an extra security check (randomly) and that delayed everything even more. I ended up missing my connecting flight to Washington. (Was offered different connection) But Dublin precleared everything in that airport already, they checked my package and stamped my passport with the ‚green card stamp‘ like I just entered to the US. I received my physical green card just recently in the mail.

Basically, plan enough time - so that delayed flights and long lines at security and preclearence won’t do anything to you

Good luck!

Thats a relief, I was worried they would only process ESTAs and the like. Sorry to hear you’d such a rough journey but glad the important stuff ran smoothly. Did you apply for your physical card on arrival just?  Getting excited for our own move now
