I applied for expedited processing while we were waiting for our case number to be assigned on the basis of financial hardship. We knew it was a long shot and the request was denied. As others have said, the reasoning generally needs to be evidence of severe financial loss or some kind of emergency. Regardless, I don't think it hurts to request one if you want to be sure. NVC continues to process your application as normal while the expedite request is reviewed by the consulate. Requesting an expedite didn't impact our timeline at all (at least so far!). We got our case number after 4 weeks and are now waiting on case complete at NVC. Good luck to you!

Nearly there Keeley!!!! Congratulations!  Like you I cannot wait to be with my husband!  I'm all alone here in Australia and I'm hoping to be joining my husband the soonest possible.

On the basis of needing to be there on our wedding anniversary and to spend the holidays there with the family.  I live solo here in Australia.  I've heard a lot of people getting approved for this reason.  Thoughts please Geowrian....

Thankfully my wife and I will be spending our wedding anniversary together...in the Dominican Republic!

I think you will find that most if not all of those claims came from the Philippines.  My wife has a cousin who claims that was her reason for expedite (birthday) and it was granted.  I do know that their entire CR-1 process was a few months shorter than the average.

We were granted an expedite as well from the Manila consulate.  Our request was due to school starting for my step-son and needing to get him enrolled in time to be able to graduate after all the delays at USCIS AND NVC awaiting case #.  It appears we were able to cut off about 5 or 6 weeks from the NVC at that point.

I would like to emphasis what others have stated - each case is scrutinized by the individual consulate and will vary from 1 consulate to another.

....and I suspect that the consulates current work loads may have a bearing on whether or not they are willing to be more lenient one month and not the next. (but I am just theorizing there)

So you think I can request for an expedite?  It wouldn't hurt to try...

You can always request.  It doesn't have a negative impact.  Our experience was that we were not able to make the request without the NVC number which was a 9 week wait in itself.

Best of luck to you!

This is without a doubt, not a reason for expedite.

Expedite is at NVC stage I believe... skipping that and going straight to the embassy

I didn’t know you could do that.  You will have to wait like the rest of us. No one said it would be easy. But, it is worth it!  Let us know if you try and are successful with expedite.

I have no idea either... that's the reason why I had to ask here because I have been hearing stories about it.  Will update you guys!

Will definitely look into this...anything help to get my husband and I together.  He has elderly parents that need attention as well.

Thanks for your input Shane & Len... I really just wanted to find out if these expedites are real.  I was born in the Philippines but I am an Australian citizen.  Hopefully, my husband and I do get lucky and get the expedite.  I think that because there's a lot of Filipinos migrating to the US, NVC wants to free up some of that load and passes them on straight to the embassy.

Maybe I'm missing something here but you think because you are Filipina that you will get a special privilege? Please understand that we all had to wait out the process and I'm pretty sure that you will too. Please come back and let us know if you have an inside track. My advise is for your husband to continue visiting and your interview will come in due time. Patience is your best friend when it comes to the visa process.

I'm not Filipino.... I am Australian.  Was just born in the Philippines.  I don't ever feel that I'm privileged in any way.  I am a common person and I pay regular taxes.  That's all.

My apologies. From your post, I thought you were Filipina. I venture to sat that most of us here pay taxes and are common people but by the same token, we are all in line waiting and not trying to jump ahead of anyone else.

No skin off my nose pal...apologies not necessary.  But I posted this to ask if there's a way to make things flow faster...I'm not in any way trying to jump ahead of anyone... I don't think that is all possible... BUT in the same breath, if there's a way for my husband and I to be together quicker then I'd like to take that avenue.  I just wanted to find out if the news is actual REAL about expediting cases.  IF they are, I wanted to find out how it is done and who are qualified for expediting.  I wanted to hear success stories if there are any.  Thanks :)
