Hello everyone,

 

I am starting to get worried. I submitted my I-130 package for my wife's spouse visa in January 2018. It is now almost September and I have not received anything but the receipt sent when the package received. I checked online for Potomac service times and it claims it takes 9.5 to 12 months to process a case. Online it says I have to wait until December to contact them about being behind schedule. 

 

Is this normal for it to take almost 9 months for the first initial paperwork? Do I need to call them and make sure my paperwork was not lost? I have to move back to USA in April next year and I want to bring my wife with me at that time. Any advice would be appreciated.

TOTALLY NORMAL . i-130 are a real pain. I was with Nebraska and it took me 7 months to get an approval. It's different for every case. I recommend you to check other VJ members with Potomac service centre so u can compare their approval times. Keep in mind that if you need to head back to the US and your wife doesn't have a visa approval by then she'll have to wait outside the US until she has her visa attached to her passport.  

Also don' t forget, it's USCIS -> NVC -> EMBASSY. The whole thing takes its time, keep being patient x

That service center has a big backlog, so it takes 9 to 12 months.  You file is not lost.  It's just in storage waiting its turn in a box with other files.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...

September 23, 2013: Received NOA1 in mail (receipt date September 19th)

October 16, 2013: Biometrics Appointment

January 28, 2014: Production of new Green Card ordered

February 3, 2014: New Green Card received; done with USCIS until fall of 2023*

December 18, 2023:  Filed I-90 to renew Green Card

December 21, 2023:  Production of new Green Card ordered - will be seeing USCIS again every 10 years for renewal
