Hey guys, Any one has any insight/ perspective about why the NOA 2 is not out for me? My reciept date on the old site is 5th which is what I have on the hard copy received from USCIS. The new site shows receipt date as 9th Feb. I see many people who had their NOA 1 way past mine reporting to have their NOA2. According to VJ time line, I should have mine by the 22nd August. I called the USCIS today- the application is within the normal processing time range, there has not been any request for additional document. So just relax and wait till the 9th of September and call if you have'nt heard from us. I am going crazy and really and desperate for some insight. Any one please? Chime in!

It's just more waiting...you're still considered in normal processing timelines by USCIS (but not by much...Jan. 30th and earlier is out of normal processing timelines right now).

Some people are lucky and get a NOA2 before you despite filing later. Some will be unlucky and get it after you who filed well before you. There is a level of randomness to it based on who gets your file, their priorities, background checks, etc.

The VJ timeline is only an estimate. It's usually pretty close, but cannot definitively say when your case will get adjudicated.

Thanks for the response. I thought the applications were handled in the order they were received. You mentioned background check. What kind of background check they would be doing on their american citizen? Dont they already have every thing about the citizens here?

Generally they are, but think of it like a grocery line that you can't choose your lane. Except it's thousands of lines. Some lanes go faster than others for various reasons.

The specifics of the background checks is not known, but includes an FBI background check. That is a black box. USCIS requests it and then waits for a response. Usually this doesn't take long, but sometimes manual verification is needed (others with the same name or something). My work requires a certain level of security clearance renewed every 6 months, and we see this with the FBI regularly where it is delayed seemingly randomly even after prior checks being quick.

They also do a criminal background check.
