Hello there everyone.

I have a question and I'll be very grateful to be assisted.

So.. my wife is a USC and I'm wondering if she should change her name on her ID's and passport before we can file for the CR1? Please help I'm confused.

2. We are also worried she might loose her visa and wouldn't be able to travel internationally to see me.

3. How do we prove to the uscis if say the name is changed?

Thank you 😊

1) it is not compulsory

2) what type of Visa you afraid he will lose?

3) Go back to SSN and file for change name because of marriage. They will give you new SSN card with married name. I guess, using that card, she will be able to change her name in her ID and passport. I'm not doing spouse visa. I came here using K-1 Visa. Got married and change name. I provide my new SSN card copy with the new name.

Aside from that, she doesn't need to change her name in passport to soon. Just go to SSN and change name to married name. File it using her married name and put her maiden name in her "other name used".

I don't think it's necessary for the name she used in her passport to be change.

My wife file our case before changing her last name for my name ,but in her passport she still using her old name.

Her social security name , bank account , water and light bills , her ID at work and her driving licence was all changed to bear my last name .

So you can change the name now when filling at USCIS before putting everything into paperwork .used those references and submit it when going to an interview.

Good luck .

I am a USC and married my husband in 2017, I did not change my name because I have a Ghanaian Visa in my US passport for another two years. I filed the petition in my  maiden name with no problem and tomorrow is my husband interview. I will change my name when my husband arrives. Wish you the best
