Hello. My spouse, who is a Ph.D student with a F1 visa, and I, a U.S. citizen, are applying for a green card marriage.

We aren't sure how to answer Part 8. question 1. "Have you EVER been a member of, involved in, or in any way associated with any organization, association, fund, foundation, party, club, society, or similar group in the United States or in any other location in the world including any military service?

He comes from a Mormon family but he does not practice the religion anymore although he did not officially resign from the LDS (Mormon) church. Shall we still indicate that he is a member of the Mormon church?

Furthermore, what are the cases that he needs to indicate that he is or was a part of an organization?

Thanks for your help in advance.

He can put it down if he wants. But if he doesn't actively participate in the Mormon church anymore and if he was just part of it during his childhood years because of his family, USCIS are not going to put resources into investigating his past Mormon life. The question is REALLY geared towards finding people who were/are affiliated with groups and organizations hostile to the US government. Groups like terrorist organizations, pro-anarchist groups, criminal groups like gangs, etc.
