Houston/Dallas seems to have long waiting times e.g. typically at least 17 months for 50% of cases (in your case possibly mid-2019). It's likely that it will not be a problem given such processing times, at most 3-4 weeks travel could be fine (but not guaranteed), because it typically takes a month between when your interview is scheduled to when you'll actually have the interview, in order to give you adequate time to receive your letter and prepare. In such a case, the sooner you travel the better. Irregardless, I would not recommend traveling right now. The immigration laws are ever-changing among other things, and even an LPR status is starting to not give as many protections as it used to. Get your citizenship then you can pretty much go anywhere anytime for however long.
