Casper is a friendly ghost. Caspar is a saint. I wouldn't take offense to either, but as always, I think whether offense is taken or not always falls on the recipient of the term. I have taken offense to the term "boy" before. I don't think it's appropriate to refer to any adult with that term. The person who said it was a friend, and said he meant no offense. I was otherwise in a good mood, so I just basically explained to him what I said here. Haven't heard the term again.

Caspar is also very white, hence the usage in a derogatory manner, Cracker is the one I do not take offense to, I think it's hilarious, I do not like being called white boy, and have only been called that by blacks, lthough to be honest they are unaware it is offensive until I tell them so. Boy is acceptable to me in the Philippines as it is a common term of endearment amongst males and is usually meant as an inclusive not derisive term, either Boy, Dong or Dodong

so a racial denigration targeting only Non-POC is acceptable and tolerable since we are mean and nasty people historically probably deserving of any and all sorts of intolerances?  Please ......

I think the point is some derogatory words have such a long social and historical context of negativity and sometimes racism, that there is no justifiable excuse or defense for using them. Other derogatory terms may not have the same context. It does not excuse the use of them, but it does explain why their is not the same level of stigma attached to their use.

If someone called me "Honkey" I would tell them not to use the word again. Even if it was a friend joking around, I would say I don't care for that. I don't think it's on the same level as the N-word, but at a personal level I would not accept it.

it's not up to nyt who they hire and fire? who makes these decisions for them then?

It is absolutely up to the NYTs who they employ, but it is also another in a long list of examples of the leftist double standard and the bias of these supposedly neutral media outlet.

I do refrain from using the N-word, as you say about the term red neck it is often used amongst southern whites, the use of the N-word in dialogue and song by blacks is comparable to usage by white of the term red neck, probably not as lethal but comparable. The difference is, I used the term N-word, Red Neck just fell from your mouth as an acceptable term ... sorry double standard there,

I do not use the term F**ot either

I am not using this forum to be complicated or make things more difficult, I am showing how some can take offense to a particular word but show disdain for someone else using a derogatory word to someone else

You make a lot of assumptions and infer meaning to what I was trying to say that is just not true. I do not find one word more acceptable than the other. I wrote those words exactly the same way you did 😐....I tried wring the N-word in full but the system itself sensors it. I mean.....😪

How dare you assume us Southern Rednecks use the term Redneck amongst ourselves ?😎

I will also add the term is very subjective and what an Blue Blood New englander may consider to be a redneck, may be very different from what I would consider a redneck.

I am actually glad it was banded by the system. I do make assumptions but I based them on your words, you used the term red neck and it was ok, non-censored by the system and if I had expanded on the N-word, it would have been banned and I probably would have earned a banishment from the forums.,

The Net-Net of my argument is do not use racial epitaphs in common speech without considering that as inviting the other participant to do likewise

What??? Am just going to go ahead and ask....what exactly do you mean by the highlighted statement?

just what it says, if you use racial epitaphs in every day speech, if someone responds in kind, you should not be surprised. Do not confuse that with condoning offensive speech, that is not what I am saying, I am saying if you knowingly use speech that will inflame the person you are speaking to do not be surprised when they respond to you in a denigrating manner

I believe Wish-TV fired someone for making or using a derogatory comment years ago, and the NYTimes continues to employ an outwardly racist individual.  I think it is pretty clear which one I am saying is acting in a hypocritical manner.
