Hi. I thought I would ask my question here about a Birmingham divorce decree. I received an RFE for Marlon's divorce decree. All he received was 2 documents (NISI and Absolute decree) with the Birmingham court seal. There is no signature of the judge. I am hoping these will be acceptable by the California Service Center as I have already sent them back with a letter explaining that those were the only documents received by my fiance. I did write to the court and was informed that my fiance could send a pound per certified copy. My question is do you think I did the best thing and will it suffice? Anyone else gone through an RFE based on a English divorce decree?

Thanks!

All I know of UK divorce decrees is that they are deceptively simple looking documents. I have seen people get RFE-ed for not having one, even though they DID have one, it just doesn't look very impressive. My fiance's is just a letter that looks more like a memo, with a red or purple stamp on it, that I think says "decree absolute" in reallllly teeny letters on the bottom - like a file name automatically inserted by a computer program or something.

That's EXACTLY how Marlon's looks! I have been in contact with my Congressman and hopefully there won't be any problems! You did submit yours with your package and you were appoved?

Yes, ours was just a single page (as I can recall right now - copy of the package is at home), with that unassuming looking document at the very end. We got our NOA2 and are waiting to get shipped from NVC to the Embassy now . . . .

I've seen other people relate stories of including the same single document and getting an RFE, then sending back the same piece of paper with the words "decree absolute" highlighted and being approved. Check around this forum and maybe the RFE thread in the main K1 forum.
