A pretty straightforward question I think, but I was unable to find a definitive answer anywhere online regarding a tourist visa, although I can see it is possible on a business/working visa.

Does anyone have experience doing this, or can anyone offer any insight? I'm aware that it may differ from embassy to embassy, so I guess I'm just asking if it is even a possibility at any embassy in general.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Just use the VWP.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Use the VWP to visit the US, no need to get a visa.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I'm not looking to have the interview in the US. It would be Vietnam, where I will be there on a tourist visa.

What is you country of citizenship?  What visa are you applying for?

You should be able to fit your hols in between the various stages, it is a long process and trying to add complications is seriously not a good idea.

I appreciate your input and opinion, and I am aware that it is a long process, but personally I wouldn't use the term 'hols' suggesting that it is the easier option to not get the interview at a foreign consulate.

I have been working in Asia for the past few years on business/working visas, and the period where I will probably have to schedule my interview falls within what will be a long, extended period of travel that I have been planning for for a long time that has flights and bookings already made.

Not everyone's situation is the same. I have not been in the UK for many years, and returning just to get the interview and then continuing with my original plans (or renewing a working visa abroad unnecessarily)  would actually be a great inconvenience - which is why I asked about having the interview in a country where I will have a tourist visa.

You can interview at any Embassy you choose. You need to have a valid (unexpired) legal status in the country you choose.

For a K-1? I'm pretty sure the typically requirement is to have a legal residence. I believe there are exceptions to the rule, but interviews handled by the immigrant visa unit want residence.

Hmm I dunno geowrain. I hope the OP comes back and updates us with what happens.

It is my understanding that as long as you have legal status in whatever country its enough. I know both Embassies (the one you are suppose to go to and the one you want to go to) have to agree to move/process the case.

The OP didnt say which Embassy she wants to interview in. She should contact them and ask if they would do her interview while shes there on a tourist visa. They may say fine, they may say they have too much of a workload to take her.
