Our co sponsor just lost her job

Hi everyone, and please if this is moved could I get a guide line on how to track and follow it.  

 

Now, we sent in our CR1 petition in May and we haven’t been approved yet. My mother in law is to be my sponsor but she just lost her job of years. Will this affect us? 

We haven’t reached NVC and I know details of affidavits of supports are sent then.

or the fact that she has her tax return for last year makes it ok for us to just send them in and not mention it?

sponsorship/ability to sponsor is based on CURRENT income

unless your MIL gets another job before needing to complete the I864 or if she does not have sufficient liquid assets she would not be a suitable sponsor

If she has no current income (and insufficient assets), then she will not meet the minimum requirements to file an I-864. Her current income is $0 if unemployed (although I believe unemployment compensation can be considered).

Have to agree with the others... Tax returns are great; but she can't prove current monthly income and that is very important. Either she finds work soon or you need another co-sponsor.

Thank you but I don’t think I mentioned we intend to lie. I stated not mentioning it.

OR does your MIL have sufficient liquid assets she could use for sponsorship

Thank you. Makes pure sense now. I dint realize there’s a form she needs to fill during the time of NVC

If you look at the form, it asks for her current income.  It would be a lie to enter an income from a job she no longer has.  Tax returns are about the past.  Information from them is required, but only the self employed take their "current income" from a tax return.
