K1 Visa Sealed Packet Opened

Hello, we got our K1 Visa from US Embassy in South Africa in July... I wanted to go to my home country first before i head to the US since the AOS process will take a while once i get to the US.

At the outbound airport in Johannesburg, South Africa the airport police were conducting some stop and search randomly like they xenophobic-ally do when they see other African country's citizen, this gangster police also stopped me and he checked my hand bag, they found the parcel and after the explanation about it not to be opened they said they will still have to open it and that they have never seen or heard of it. That my visa was on my passport and that was not my visa since "This is your visa" was written on the envelope.

I told them to see the USEM stamp on it and also to call the US Embassy right away to confirm it or they should just scan the freaking envelope but they were so rude and also said US law must apply in US (Funny), well i kept quiet since it has started escalating and starting to sound suspicious and didn't want to get shot, they now went on to open it neatly (Not cool) the dude then gave it back to me and said i have to tell the US the police opened it like they are relevant to the US, now that the gangster police opened it well i proceeded to my home country because at that time i had checked in and awaiting boarding.

Please what can be done? We contacted the one in my home country and they said they need to be authorized by US Consulate in South Africa before they can help and the USEM South Africa are not responding yet and they say their immigrations do not talk via telephone.

We called CBP Los Angeles where i will be having my POE and the officer on the phone said he understands and that i can proceed and explain the same thing at the POE since nothing was altered...

My fiancee seems very calm about all these lol and she said i should proceed to POE but i don’t want to take the risk proceeding with an open visa package...

Can i just DHL it back to them in South Africa or should i just DHL it to a friend in South Africa and he takes it in for me for re-sealing?

The NVC lady we spoke to over the phone said it is not a crime to have that envelope opened and that it is totally amendable so if you're responding please do not make it sound like we just bombed Trump Tower ;)

Anyone have any advise or experience(s) about this unfortunate situation?

Thank You!

Are you able to get to the US embassy in the country you are currently in? They might be able to reseal it for you without an issue. I've heard of many embassies doing such things, but it will vary by country.

Thank you so much, I really got proof to show the immigration those guys opened it if he had asked why i resealed it myself but the officer was much interested in the contents so he ripped the envelope apart in 2 seconds and he checked the files thoroughly... And he continued.

He’s a cool immigration officer by the way (Something we don’t get in South Africa, all they can do there in South Africa is to rip people’s immigration parcel 😡

As a follow-up, you should report the incident to the director of customer service at OR Tambo so that it does not happen again to someone else.

Thanks. Tell your fiance to watch out when flying from Johannesburg. Those dogs who call themselves police in SA can get real messy.
